Now's never been a better time to check your coin purse, piggy bank or swear jars to see whether you possess one of these unique coins.
An expert has revealed four valuable American coins that could be worth up to $3.7 million.
Now's never been a better time to check your coin purse, piggy bank or swear jars to see whether you possess one of these unique coins.
CoinCollectingWizard, who boasts 211k followers on TikTok, has explained how individuals could identify a rare coin among their loose change.
They may be more common than you think as the coin collector said: “Check your American coins to make easy money. Some will seriously make you super rich - check this out.”
The four coins to look out for could be sold for up to $3.7 million, so the TikToker implores viewers to search through coin purses, piggy banks or wallets to see if you possess any rare metal.
CoinCollectingWizard warned that a rare coin may not bring in as much money as one may thin.
Buyers of such coins take into account the design, condition and whether it's still in circulation. All the above could potentially raise or sink the coin's value.
Although, checking the coin's mintage is a great indicator of rarity, according to the TikToker. Low mintage on a coin indicates there's few in in circulation, which makes it more rare.
Coins can be a bit tricky to identify so here's rare ones to look out for next time you scrounge through your change.
1913 Liberty Head nickel
The most famous rare coin is the 1913 Liberty Head nickel. Only five American nickels were ever struck with a symbol of lady liberty's head, and two of them are in museums.
CoinCollectingWizard said: “The 1913 Liberty Head nickel is an American five cent piece, which was produced in extremely limited quantities un authorized by the United States Mint making it one of the best known and most coveted rarities in numismatics.
“In 1972 one specimen of this coin became the first coin to sell for over $100,000 then another sold for $3.7million.”
Rumor has it that a sixth coin exists, however these are considered unfounded.
1969-S Lincoln cent
The 1969-S Lincoln cent was minted in San Francisco as evident by the S distinction found under the date, according to the coin expert.
CoinCollectingWizard said: “The 1969-S Lincoln cent coin is exceedingly rare. The secret service confiscated the early specimens until the U.S. Mint admitted they were genuine.
“Counterfeits abound but usually have the wrong mint mark. However in May 2014 a mother in Texas found one while going through rolls of coins PCGS graded the coin AU50 five valued at approximately $40,000.”
Its double die obverse variety is the coin's most-coveted aspect. The coin experts advised viewers to look for parts of the design that are doubled in slightly overlapping positions.
1972 Lincoln cent
The 1972 Lincoln cent is worth even more than 1969-S thanks to its double elements. In a happy accident, the coin was slammed with a face side twice is slightly different places, which created an overlap in some features.
The head of President Lincoln looks normal but the surrounding words and numbers are notably distorted.
CoinCollectingWizard said: “Another one with a doubling effect on the obverse is the 1972 Lincoln one cent coin. now I did say an easy $400 for this era coin but to be honest this all depends on condition.
“You are more than likely to get at least $400 for this coin but if the condition is even greater then expect to make some big bucks.”

1933 Gold Double Eagle
The 1933 Gold Double Eagle, possibly the most beautiful coin eve minted in the US, is a $20 coin.
During the Great Depression, President Roosevelt ordered Americans to turn over their gold coins for paper dollars. The government collected 445,500 double eagle coins, bearing 1933 dates, were all melted down into gold bars. Only two were preserved and sent to the Smithsonian Institution.
However, someone swooped in the mint in Philadelphia and snagged 20 double eagles before they were melted with the rest.
CoinCollectingWizard said: “The Holy grail of American coin collecting is this 1933 gold double eagle. In 2021 this gold double eagle sold at auction for $19million.”
