Ultra-rare 50p coin listed on eBay for nearly 80,000 times its original value

A RARE 50p coin is up for grabs on eBay for a staggering £39,999 – nearly 80,000 times its original value.

The coin, part of the ‘Diversity Built Britain’ collection, was minted in 2020 and features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on one side.

The other side of the coin features the words "DIVERSITY BUILT BRITAIN" and an intricate design inspired by a geodome.

Designed by Dominique Evans, who also created the Jane Austen 2017 UK coin, the piece was influenced by her experiences.

The coin, which is described as being in "very good condition," is a must-have for any coin collection.

It comes as another ultra-rare Olympic 50p sold on eBay for £4,000 due to an "extra special" design detail.

The 2011 coin, released ahead of the London Olympics, features a swimmer with their face obscured by water ripples.

Only a few hundred of these error coins are believed to be in circulation, with previous examples selling for as much as £1,500.

Meanwhile, the Kew Gardens 50p remains the holy grail of UK coins, with just 200,000 ever made. One of these recently fetched £895 on eBay.

A coin is considered rare if it has a low mintage or a manufacturing error.

Collectors can check their change for valuable coins using The Royal Mint’s website or the Change Checker scarcity index.

If you think you’ve got a rare coin, you can sell it on eBay, at auction, or through The Royal Mint’s Collectors Service.

For those selling on Facebook, be wary of scammers who claim to send a courier for the item but ask for money upfront.
