Ultra-rare coins with royal connection could be worth small fortune

Coin collectors you could be sitting on a fortune without you evening realising it with this ultra-rare coin.

As reported by The Express, some coins are sold for an astonishing amount of money. If you have old Maundy Money, you could get a fortune for selling it.

Today is Maudy Thursday - an Easter tradition when Christians remember the last supper of Jesus with his disciples before his crucifixion. And those who have shown great commitment to their church and community have been honoured today, as a group are every year.

Maundy Money is given to pensioners in small leather purses by the King at the Royal Maundy Service - and the amount is tied to the monarch's age. King Charles and Queen Camilla, were greeted with crowds of cheers as they arrived at Durham Cathedral earlier today to issue the specially minted coins to 76 men and women - the same number as the King's age.

This year's Maundy Money includes a £5 coin commemorating the Queen Mother and a 50p piece commemorating World War Two. The Maundy Money day is one of the oldest royal ceremonies - dating back at least as far as the 13th Century. The honorary coins are very rare, making them incredibly valuable.

In a discussion on Reddit, one individual was curious about what people do with the coins. The user said: "Has anyone's relative ever received Maundy Money? What did you/they do with it? Display it somewhere? Sell it?" People rushed to comment and share their experiences.

One individual shared: "Another wrote: "Had a red pouch donated to a charity shop I volunteered in, contained coins in denomination of the queen's age at that particular point in time. We sold them for about £750 if I remember correctly, was a few years ago now!"

Another said their grandmother was a recipient of Maundy Money. They said: "My grandma was. It was round about when I was born so I inherited it. It's in my jewellery box."

One other commented: "One of my great-grandparents received some. It was much coveted among the many offspring and I've no idea who has it now. The last of that generation died over 15 years ago so I imagine the next generation are squabbling over it now."

One other insisted that selling it is the best choice. They said: "You sell it, it gets melted down and turned into new Maundy money coins and the cycle continues forever."
