Trump Touts Crypto as Key to U.S. Economic Growth
Mar 21, 2025 at 12:29 am
Addressing the Digital Asset Summit's attendees via video feed, Trump declared his commitment to making America the global center for digital assets.
President Donald Trump's administration is aiming to position the U.S. as a global leader in cryptocurrency and financial technology, the president said Monday at the Digital Asset Summit.
In remarks prepared for the event, Trump said his administration is focused on making America the undisputed center for digital assets.
"Together we will make America, the undisputed bitcoin superpower and the crypto capital of the world," said Trump, who is running for president again in 2024.
The president's remarks come after the White House hosted the Digital Asset Summit earlier this year, where top crypto executives met with White House AI and Crypto Czar David Sacks to discuss the administration's vision for the industry.
Trump said his administration is also working to maximize the government’s holdings by creating a strategic bitcoin reserve and a U.S. digital asset stockpile.
"Instead of foolishly selling them for a fraction of their long-term value, which is exactly what Biden did," said Trump, adding that the move will be announced in the coming weeks.
The president also said he will be ending the previous administration's "regulatory war on crypto," including Operation Choke Point 2.0.
"It was a form of lawfare through government weaponization. Frankly, it was a disgrace," said Trump, who added that such policies ended on January 20, 2025.
"No president in history has done more to advance the crucial role of financial technology in our economy and to protect the American people's economic freedoms than me," he said.
Trump called on Congress to pass legislation establishing clear regulations for stablecoins and market structure, arguing that a strong legal framework will allow institutions to invest and innovate in the industry.
"You will unleash an explosion of economic growth," said Trump. "We will create millions of new jobs and together we will make America truly great again."
The president concluded his remarks by saying that he believes crypto will drive financial innovation in the U.S.
"It's going to be right here in the USA, the good old USA," said Trump. "The best is yet to come."
