The Trump organisation is reportedly about to launch its next major crypto venture, according to Fortune.
The publisher, which cited two separate sources who are familiar with the project, reported that the organisation’s portfolio of crypto projects, which already includes NFT collections, a memecoin, a stablecoin and the decentralised finance venture World Libert Financial, is about to add a crypto game.
According to the report, one source said the video game is a twist on Monopoly Go, where players earn in-game cash by moving pieces around a digital Monopoly board to erect buildings in a digital city.
A second separate source also compared the game to Monopoly. However, Kevin Mercuri, a spokesperson for Zanker, a longtime pal of Trump who helped the President launch his memecoin and NFTs, and who is reportedly behind the venture, denied that the game was similar to Monopoly Go, adding that the Monopoly comparisons are nothing but “heresay”.
This is not the first time the news that Zanker was developing a crypto game is coming out. According to Fortune, Zanker planned to launch the game before Trump’s inauguration in January. He is also reported to have reached out to Hasbro last May to buy back the license for “Trump: The Game”, described by another source as a “Trump-branded version of Monopoly”.
However, a spokesperson for Hasbro, which is behind the original board Monopoly game, said it had not licensed its intellectual property to a Trump organisation-affiliated crypto venture.
