Several meme coins have been released in recent weeks, including those bearing the names of former President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump.
The coins, which are available on HitBTC, are named TRUMP-OFFICIAL USD and MELANIA-OFFICIAL-USD, respectively.
Coin data shows that TRUMP-OFFICIAL USD surged in value after its release, and its market cap now stands above $5 billion.
Meanwhile, MELANIA-OFFICIAL-USD began trading at around $1.30 on Jan. 19, the day before Trump took office. This coin rose to a high of almost $5 before falling to around $2.30.
Both coins are described as "collectible digital currency." However, the HitBTC website includes a disclaimer stating that the coins "are not intended to be, or to be the subject of, an investment opportunity, investment contract, or security of any type."
