A variety of vended laundry projects are completed around the country each year, resulting in brand-new or rejuvenated stores primed and ready to serve customers. To celebrate the effort that goes into designing, building and equipping today’s modern self-service laundry, American Coin-Op created this Portraits of Success feature to recognize memorable projects of recent vintage. And so equipment manufacturers were invited to tout their brand’s latest noteworthy vended laundry projects. Here is a story that was shared by Huebsch, an Alliance Laundry Systems brand: Laundry owners Dennis Mejillones and Mike Kochis don’t cut corners. Their business model has always been predicated on delivering the best customer experience in the market. Their latest Tropix Laundromat location is no different. The pair retooled the 4,000-square-foot location with Huebsch Galaxy 600-controlled equipment and, in an effort to streamline operations management, added Huebsch Command. “I find it way easier to manage the store remotely, so customer issues can be quickly and efficiently handled using Huebsch Command,” Mejillones says. Beyond self-service, for those customers who want the ultimate in convenience, Tropix offers wash/dry/fold as well as pickup and delivery through its service partner, Lavado Laundry. High-G-force Huebsch washer-extractors ensure customers not only have the perfect capacity to meet their needs, but the high spin speeds reduce drying times to get them in and out fast. Machines installed new or replaced as part of the Tropix project include 48 Galaxy 600 washers: 10 at 20 pounds capacity, 22 at 40 pounds, 12 at 60 pounds and four at 80 pounds. Also in this equipment mix are 11 stacked Galaxy 600 30-pound dryers and 16 stacked Galaxy 600 45-pound dryers, as well as a CCI LaundryCard system with two X-Changers and a NATCO Fire Coil water heater with a 119-gallon storage tank. You’d be hard-pressed to find a cleaner laundromat on the East Coast, but there’s so much more to Tropix. Take, for instance, space. Where other laundromats seek to leverage every square inch and pack equipment in, Tropix again puts the customer first. Wide aisles make the laundry a truly welcoming environment. Alliance Laundry Systems Distribution East, with assistance from Terryo’s Laundry and Rigging, was responsible for equipment installation as well as managing the construction aspects of the project, which took approximately four months to complete and cost $1.1 million.
