A trader appeared to have made millions of dollars in cryptocurrency by buying a large amount of Official Trump TRUMP/USD memecoin at a low point on Tuesday, just minutes after President Donald Trump said he knew little about it.

What Happened: According to an observation made by capital markets commentator The Kobeissi Letter in an X post and independently verified by Benzinga, a wallet purchased $5.09 million worth of TRUMP at the exact bottom as the coin fell over 33% three minutes after Trump made his first public statement on the official coin.

The subsequent purchase led to a quick recovery in the coin’s value, netting the trader $2.4 million in profits in just 14 minutes later.

This is unusual:

The findings were drawn from analytics platform DEX Screener. The team behind Trump’s memecoin didn’t immediately return a request for comment.

“Did someone know?” The Kobeissi Letter asked alluding to insider training.

The coin, which launched in December 2022 and is not affiliated with Trump despite his name and likeness being used to promote it, is designed to serve as a ‘reward token’ for the former president’s supporters.

The coin’s official website states that entities linked to Trump’s family-owned conglomerate, The Trump Organization, control 80% of the coin’s supply.

Trump appeared nonchalant when he was asked about the Solana SOL/USD-based memecoin during his first White House news conference.

"I don't know much about it other than I launched it. I heard it was very successful. I haven't checked where is it today,” he said.

When a journalist suggested that Trump had made "several billion dollars" from the venture, the president called it “peanuts.”

When asked if he was happy with the people who were making money from his name, Trump said, "Well, I'm very happy for them. I'm not getting anything. Maybe I'll have to speak to the lawyers and see if I can do something."
