People sitting on a rare coin collection are being urged to check their stash before heading to the bank.

While hoarding coins can be a bit of a pain, having some spare change dotted around the place could come in handy.

But before you go ahead and deposit your coins, one TikTok user has revealed why it could be worth holding onto.

User @CoinCollectingWizard has revealed the £1 and £2 coins that are worth loads.

He showed how some of these coins have mistakes on them that could make them unexpectedly valuable.

The user, who boasts 164,000 followers, spoke in a recent video.

The coin collector said: "How much do you think is in this savings tin? It is packed with £1 and £2 coins.

"Now before you take all your coins to the bank, you need to be searching for some of the special designs worth money."

He revealed a 2014 William Shakespeare £1 coin has a blunder on the inscription around the edge which is all wrong.

If you've got one of these, it could fetch over £50.

Next up, he highlighted a coin minted to commemorate 100 years since the First World War began.

He said: "The error version is missing the words '£2' from the head side.

"The 2014 coin was launched nine years ago to mark 100 years since the start of the First World War."

Featuring Lord Kitchener, the face of British wartime propaganda, only the coins lacking the '£2' inscription are the ones that could bag you a whopping £1,000.

The clip, shared a few days back, has already racked up 4,400 likes and 1,300 comments.

One user exclaimed: "Omg I've got the World War One coin!"

Meanwhile, another quipped: "Not enough with the cost of living crisis."
