Telegram Rolls Out New “Gifts” Feature, Enabling Users to Transmit Personalized Gifts That Can Be Exchanged for Telegram Stars or Displayed
Oct 06, 2024 at 08:08 pm
The new Telegram Gifts feature enables users to transmit personalized gifts that recipients can either exchange for Telegram Stars or display.
Telegram has introduced a new "Gifts" feature that allows users to send personalized gifts to each other, which can be displayed on the recipient's profile or exchanged for Telegram Stars.
These Stars can be used to support creators or to purchase micro services within the app. The gifting option is available on each contact profile, and users can customize the emojis and messages that accompany the gifts.
Interestingly, a limited number of these Telegram Gifts will be available, and some of the limited-edition gifts are planned to be converted into NFTs on Telegram's TON blockchain. The blockchain will register the ownership of these NFTs, allowing users to auction and trade the gifts outside of the app.

In addition to the Telegram Gifts feature, the messaging platform has also recently made updates to its business verification service.
Through the Fragment platform, businesses can send verification codes to their customers at a cost of $0.01 per code. The method is claimed to be more secure and faster than traditional SMS-based verification methods.
The platform's Gateway API is available for testing, allowing developers to experiment with the system before implementing it.
Meanwhile, Telegram's privacy and security policies have been under scrutiny. Earlier this year, the platform's founder and CEO Pavel Durov addressed some of the concerns regarding Telegram's cooperation with law enforcement.
Durov stated that the platform began sharing some crime-related information with authorities in 2018. However, he maintains that Telegram's privacy policies protect its users and do not condone any illegal activities.
This statement comes months before Durov's alleged ongoing legal dispute with the French government. Durov is reportedly facing six charges for supposed illicit activities on Telegram, with a maximum fine of $5.5 million.
