Team India's and Rohit Sharma's toss-losing streak continues ahead of the IND vs. NZ Champions Trophy final

Team India’s misery with the coin toss continued in the upcoming IND vs. NZ Champions Trophy final. India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, lost another toss to Kane Williamson’s New Zealand side. This extends India’s run of coin toss losses to 15 matches in a row, beginning with the 2023 World Cup final.

The numbers also reveal that Rohit Sharma has now tied with legendary batsman Brian Lara for the most consecutive coin tosses lost by any captain.

Most coin tosses lost (Consecutive)

12: Brian Lara [West Indies] (Oct 1998 – May 1999)

12 Rohit Sharma [India] (Nov 2023 – Mar 2025)*

11: Peter Borren [Netherlands] (Mar 2011 – Aug 2013)

Confidence takes toss away from the game: Rohit Sharma

After the coin toss, Rohit Sharma shared, “Ah, we’ve done both batting first and bowling first in this tournament. We don’t mind either. So, no worries about batting second. It doesn’t change much. We batted second well in the last game. We’ve chased well, winning a few games while chasing. It gives you a lot of confidence and takes the toss away from the game.”

“At the end of the day, what matters most is how well we play, not worrying too much about the toss. That’s what we discussed in the dressing room – to go out there and play good cricket. Yeah, absolutely, no doubt. New Zealand is a strong team, they’ve been performing well in ICC tournaments. Let’s enjoy the occasion,” he concluded.
