Chainlink, Hyperlane, and Velodrome Join Forces to Launch Super USDT Stablecoin for OP Superchain Ecosystem
Chainlink, Hyperlane, and Velodrome, three key players in the blockchain infrastructure domain, have announced a collaboration to introduce Super USDT, a new interoperable version of the USDT stablecoin. This initiative is designed to enhance the liquidity and accessibility of USDT within the OP Superchain ecosystem.
Hyperlane will facilitate cross-chain transfers of Super USDT, enabling seamless movement of the stablecoin across different blockchains within the Superchain. Meanwhile, Chainlink CCIP will serve as the technology of choice for maintaining a continuously verifiable 1:1 backing of Super USDT with native USDT on the Celo blockchain.
To further support the initiative, Mento Labs will be providing 1:1 feeless swaps into USDT on Celo via the Mento Protocol. This move is expected to bolster the liquidity of USDT on Celo and make it more accessible to users.
The introduction of Super USDT aims to address the challenges arising from liquidity fragmentation across the Superchain. Previously, each blockchain within the Superchain had to create its own version of the bridged USDT, leading to fragmented liquidity and limited interoperability. Alternatively, they faced hefty fees from third-party services to deploy a bridged token contract.
With Super USDT, these hurdles are overcome by providing a single, canonical USDT token that seamlessly operates across all Superchain networks. Through Chainlink CCIP and Hyperlane’s out-of-the-box deployments, Super USDT can rapidly expand to new Superchain networks, fostering a truly interconnected ecosystem.
Unlike previous solutions that imposed exorbitant fees, Super USDT champions open access, eliminating predatory business practices and promoting a level playing field for all participants.
“We're excited to see Chainlink Labs, Hyperlane, and Velodrome joining forces to create Super USDT, a new interoperable version of USDT for the OP Superchain ecosystem,” said a Velodrome representative. “This initiative will greatly enhance the liquidity and accessibility of USDT within the Superchain, and we look forward to seeing it come to fruition.”
“USDT has been the lifeblood of DeFi for many years, and Chainlink is excited to advance it further by supporting Super USDT interoperability, making it possible to seamlessly bring USDT anywhere on any Optimism chain,” said Johann Eid, Chief Business Officer at Chainlink Labs
“This is a seminal moment for interoperability in the Superchain. Hyperlane's open framework allows Super USDT to expand easily to new chains, and we're excited to see it rapidly adopted across the Superchain,” said Jon Kol, co-founder of Hyperlane.
