Michael Saylor, founder and president of MicroStrategy, made notable statements regarding strategic Bitcoin reserves.
Michael Saylor, founder and president of MicroStrategy (NASDAQ:), made noteworthy recommendations for a U.S. strategy to strengthen its global capital leadership, notably through shifting from gold to Bitcoin. In an interview with Yahoo Finance, Saylor elaborated on the importance of the U.S. adopting Bitcoin and the potential consequences for other world powers.
Saylor highlighted Bitcoin as a key instrument for the U.S. government to maintain its world reserve status, a role that has been in place since World War II. He suggested that the government should purchase at least 20-25% of the current Bitcoin supply and allocate funds for this purpose by selling gold.
“The United States should sell gold to buy Bitcoin,” Saylor stated, adding that this move would leave no doubt about which country holds the title of “World Reserve Capital Network.” In this scenario, Bitcoin’s total market value would amount to $100 trillion.
If this occurs, Saylor believes that other major economies, such as the eurozone or China, would struggle to maintain their own capital networks. With gold values declining, Russia and China might feel pressured to shift their assets to Bitcoin, potentially creating a mechanism that naturally attracts capital to the U.S.
MicroStrategy has been at the forefront of institutional investors engaging in substantial investments in Bitcoin. Recently, the company purchased 15,400 Bitcoin for $1.5 billion, increasing its total Bitcoin holdings to over 400,000 coins.
Saylor mentioned that MicroStrategy’s strategy has also influenced other institutional investors, who are now following a similar path.
Saylor’s recommendations could have a significant impact on the global economic landscape through digital currencies. However, it remains to be seen whether the U.S. will adopt this strategy, and if so, how quickly changes will take place.
Moreover, the question of whether Bitcoin can truly replace gold as a new reserve asset continues to be a subject of discussion and analysis among economists and financial experts.
