StepMania, a fitness-tracking game, has officially launched on Telegram. The game will allow players to convert their daily step counts into digital rewards, similar to StepN on Solana. However, StepMania is making a key distinction by eliminating the NFT buy-in requirement, making it more accessible to everyday users.
The game is now live and players can begin tracking their steps, climbing the leaderboards, and participating in influencer-hosted tournaments to earn in-game coins and raffle tickets. These tickets will give players a chance to win real-world prizes like iPhones, PlayStation 5s, and other exciting gadgets.
In addition to the in-game rewards, StepMania is also preparing to launch a token on TON, which is supported by The Open Platform (TOP). While an official release date for the token has not yet been announced, this move will further integrate StepMania into the TON blockchain ecosystem.
Move-to-earn (M2E) first became popular in 2022 with the launch of StepN, a Solana-based fitness game that rewarded users with tokens for walking, jogging, or running. At its peak, StepN had millions of active users, but its model, which required players to purchase NFT sneakers to participate, resulted in high entry costs and a later decline in user engagement.
Since then, the M2E space has continued to evolve, with projects attempting to lower financial barriers and broaden accessibility. While platforms like Telegram have begun to embrace Web3 gaming, other initiatives include Sweatcoin and Genopets, each of which has explored distinct models.
With StepMania's launch on Telegram, the trend of move-to-earn is taking another step forward, this time with a lower barrier to entry and Telegram's massive user base. While it remains to be seen whether the game can maintain long-term engagement, the M2E movement is undoubtedly gaining momentum.
