Spain Denies Roger Ver’s Appeal, Extradition Looms

Feb 08, 2025 at 04:05 am

Roger Ver, a longtime advocate for cryptocurrency and individual liberty, faces allegations of tax evasion, with U.S. prosecutors claiming he underpaid his “exit tax” after renouncing his citizenship in 2014.

Spain Denies Roger Ver’s Appeal, Extradition Looms

Cryptocurrency pioneer Roger Ver is facing imminent extradition to the United States after Spain denied his final appeal. The move paves the way for his transfer to face tax evasion charges, which his lawyers claim are part of a government crackdown on financial freedom.

Ver, a longtime advocate for crypto and individual liberty, is accused by U.S. prosecutors of underpaying his “exit tax” after renouncing his citizenship in 2014. His legal team maintains that the charges are politically motivated and part of a broader assault on those who challenge state-controlled financial systems.

As Ver’s extradition nears, many are calling on President Donald Trump's administration to intervene and pardon him, highlighting the injustice of his prosecution.

During an appearance on “The Alex Jones Show” on Friday, Ver discussed his legal fight and received a strong endorsement from Jones, who urged Trump to take action quickly.

“The administration needs to move quickly on this,” the show host said, emphasizing that Ver's case sets a dangerous precedent where the government punishes those who seek alternatives to traditional financial institutions. If left unchallenged, the prosecution could deter future innovators from pushing back against centralized economic control.

“It almost feels like another American Renaissance happening right before our eyes,” Ver told Jones on the show. “I want to be a part of it, I want to invest my money in American businesses that are making this happen. This is so, so, so exciting, but we all have to come together and stop the deep state from attacking the people that are out there making the world great for everybody, and making America great for for everybody.”

The Spanish court's refusal to halt Ver's extradition has raised concerns about due process and state overreach. His legal team has accused U.S. prosecutors of violating attorney-client privilege and failing to disclose key evidence.

Critics also point out that the regulatory framework surrounding cryptocurrency in the early days was vague and subject to change, making the government's claims against Ver, whose actions were fully legal at the time, highly suspect.

Now, Donald Trump's Department of Justice has an opportunity to correct this miscarriage of justice. As the CEO of Bitcoin.com recently noted, the company's American expansion hinges on Ver's pardon.

A full pardon for Ver would send a clear message that the United States values financial innovation and will not allow politically motivated prosecutions to stifle economic progress.

As Ver's extradition nears, the fight for his freedom is far from over. Supporters are continuing to rally behind him, urging Trump to intervene before it is too late.
