Apr 06, 2024 at 12:39 am
A solo Bitcoin miner successfully mined a single block before the anticipated halving event, earning a substantial reward of 6.36 BTC, equivalent to approximately $422,750 at the time of mining. The miner, reportedly using a hashrate of 7 PH/s, had been accumulating shares intermittently since the last restart of the CKPool and accounted for an average of 0.05% of the shares necessary to solve a block.
Solo Bitcoin Miner Strikes Gold with 6.36 BTC Block Discovery Preceding Halving
In a remarkable feat of perseverance and computational prowess, a solo miner has triumphed over the escalating difficulty of Bitcoin mining, securing a 6.36 BTC block reward just days ahead of the highly anticipated halving event.
On April 5, the anonymous miner with a modest equipment hashrate of 7 PH/s etched their mark in the Bitcoin blockchain by successfully validating block #837,814. This triumph netted them a substantial reward of 6.27 BTC, valued at approximately $422,750 at the time of mining, along with a commission of 0.1 BTC.
According to data from Mempool, the solo miner has been mining sporadically since the last CKPool restart, accumulating an average of 0.05% of the shares necessary to solve a block.
Con Kolyvas, administrator of CKPool, confirmed the miner's impressive achievement and revealed that they had been utilizing a combination of their own mining hardware and intermittently rented hashrate to increase their chances of success.
"The miner has contacted me in private. He was mining with his own mining hardware supplemented by intermittent rented hashrate," Kolyvas explained.
This latest solo mining triumph follows similar successes in recent months. In October 2023, a solo miner with a hardware power of 11 PH/s discovered a block, earning a reward of 6.25 BTC and a commission of 0.09 BTC. In May 2023, another intrepid miner secured a $177,115 payday by mining a block, netting 6.25 BTC in reward and 0.24 BTC in commission.
As the Bitcoin halving approaches, the mining difficulty has undergone a slight decrease of 0.97%, settling at an indicator of 83.13 T. During the period leading up to this adjustment, the average hashrate for the network stood at an impressive 593.99 EH/s, while the average block interval was recorded at 10 minutes and 7 seconds.
While solo Bitcoin mining remains a challenging endeavor, the recent successes of these dedicated miners demonstrate that it is not impossible. With patience, perseverance, and a touch of luck, it is still possible to strike gold in the competitive world of crypto mining.
As the Bitcoin halving event draws near, it will be fascinating to observe whether the reduced block rewards will further intensify the competitive landscape or open up new opportunities for solo miners. Regardless, the story of this latest solo mining triumph serves as an inspiring testament to the ingenuity and determination that drives the Bitcoin community forward.
