Solana (SOL-USD) Saw a Staggering $485 Million in Outflows Throughout February

Solana (SOL-USD) saw a staggering $485 million in outflows throughout February as investors scrambled for safer alternatives, according to Binance Research.

The outflows, which saw capital shifting to Ethereum (ETH-USD), Arbitrum (ARB-USD), and BNB Chain (BNB-USD), reflect a broader sentiment of risk aversion in the crypto market.

“Overall, there is a broader flight towards safety in crypto markets, with Bitcoin dominance increasing 1% in the past month to 59.6%.”

Indeed, macroeconomic uncertainty and the catastrophic $1.4 billion Bybit hack have shaken confidence in the industry.

As a result, overall cryptocurrency market capitalization dropped 20% in February.

Moreover, the collapse of Solana-based memecoin projects, such as Libra, only worsened sentiment. The token, which had been endorsed by Argentine President Javier Milei, was a classic rug pull, with insiders allegedly draining over $107 million.

This led to a 94% price collapse within hours, wiping out $4 billion in investor capital.

"The shift in the meme coin space, with insider rings, pump-and-dump schemes, and sniper groups replacing the original collectible nature of meme coins, has created an unhealthy playing field," said Anastasija Plotnikova, CEO of Fideum.

Meanwhile, stablecoins and real-world assets (RWAs) surged to all-time highs. On-chain RWAs now total $17.1 billion, while stablecoins have exceeded a record $224 billion, according to Cointelegraph.

"We can expect to see RWA assets hit $50 billion by 2025 as investors are increasingly seeking predictability amid uncertainty, which outperforms RWA assets in the current market climate." said Alexander Loktev, chief revenue officer at P2P.org.
