"Solana Memecoin PUPS Gains Whale Attention, Invests $4.29 Million"
Apr 21, 2024 at 10:30 pm
A major cryptocurrency investor, known as a "whale," has emerged as the largest holder of PUPS, a dog-themed memecoin on the Solana blockchain. The whale's recent purchase of $512,000 worth of PUPS has brought their total holdings to $4.29 million, with an average purchase price of $68. The same whale also holds significant amounts of other memecoins, including the President Joe Biden-themed Jeo Boden (BODEN) and the dog-themed dogwifhat (WIF).
Solana-Based Memecoin PUPS Sees Whale Acquisition
A prominent cryptocurrency investor, known as a "whale" due to their substantial holdings, has amassed a significant stake in the dog-themed altcoin PUPS, emerging as the largest holder of the asset on the Solana blockchain.
Blockchain analytics firm Lookonchain detected the whale's accumulation, estimating their investment in PUPS at approximately $4.29 million. This substantial purchase reportedly occurred in multiple transactions, with the most recent acquisition exceeding half a million dollars.
PUPS, a cartoonish animal-themed meme token, initially launched on the Bitcoin Ordinals protocol and later expanded to Solana. The whale's latest investment has propelled them to the top of the PUPS holdings chart on Solana.
"This whale purchased 8,862 PUPS for approximately $512,000, bringing their total holdings to 63,024 PUPS, valued at $4.29 million," Lookonchain reported. "Their average purchase price stood at $68."
Lookonchain noted that the whale also holds other meme-themed assets, including the President Joe Biden-themed Jeo Boden (BODEN) and the dog-themed dogwifhat (WIF).
Earlier in February, Lookonchain observed a surge in Solana whale activity following a market correction that presented attractive buying opportunities. One whale capitalized on the dip to acquire large amounts of Slerf (SLERF), a sloth-themed token, and Book of Meme (BOME), a Pepe the Frog-inspired asset.
However, during the same period, Lookonchain also witnessed four other whales engaging in panic selling near the market bottom, unloading approximately $12.41 million worth of WIF.
The news of the whale's substantial investment in PUPS suggests continued interest in memecoins within the cryptocurrency community. These assets, despite their speculative nature, have attracted significant attention and investment flows from retail and institutional traders alike.
As the cryptocurrency market continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how these memecoins will perform in the long term. However, the whale's accumulation of PUPS signifies the ongoing appeal of these whimsical and often humorous assets in the digital asset landscape.
