Scrooge Casino: A Comprehensive Sweepstakes Casino Review

Mar 22, 2024 at 06:03 pm

There’s no shortage of sweepstakes casinos on the internet, but Scrooge Casino has separated from the pack with a fantastic collection of slots and table games, and a host of other features. They accept players from every U.S. state excluding Washington, Michigan, Idaho, Montana, and Alaska.

In my Scrooge Casino review, I'm covering everything from their game collection and their array of promotions, to stand out features, customer support and how you can redeem real cash prizes now.

Scrooge Casino User Experience

The user experience at Scrooge Casino couldn’t be any more beginner-friendly. The interface is easy to get the hang of, and they’ve done a great job of categorizing their games on the site’s homepage. All you have to do is sign up, scroll, choose a game, and click on it to start playing.

I appreciate the search bar in the center of my screen, which is useful if you’re looking for something specific. Clicking the menu button at the top-right corner of your screen reveals the left sidebar. Here, you can search for games by category, visit their Purchase Center, and spin the daily wheel. There’s a toggle to switch between using GC and ST as you browse through all the games.

The black-on-yellow interface reminds us of the gold coins that Ebenezer Scrooge loves, and it goes easy on the eyes. While their mobile interface felt a bit cramped on my smartphone, their desktop website lays it all out nicely. Unfortunately, there’s no iOS or Android app to download. For that reason, I recommend playing on your computer or laptop, rather than your mobile.

The homepage contains an icon that shows your GC balance with a little “plus” sign next to it. There’s no purchase required to play games at Scrooge Casino, but you can click on (+) if you want to top up your balance. Best of all, new sign-ups get discounts on their coin purchases!

Scrolling to the bottom of your screen, you’ll notice links to follow Scrooge Casino on Facebook and Twitter. Directly underneath those icons, I found the customer support email you can use to get in touch with an agent. There’s also a live chat button at the bottom-left corner of the screen.

Scrooge Casino’s Terms & Conditions are easily accessible from the site’s homepage, and their Responsible Social Gameplay page explains more about the features you can utilize to practice responsible gambling. I found it simple to set daily, weekly, and monthly purchase limits for GC, which is a nice touch that improves the overall user experience.

Aside from a minor complaint about Scrooge Casino’s mobile website feeling a bit cramped, this platform offers excellent usability with striking animations to match. For this reason, I’m going to give my experience with Scrooge Casino a 4 out of 5 star rating.

Scrooge Promotions and Bonuses

Scrooge Casino offers a generous array of bonuses and promotions, but the largest bonus they have on deck is undoubtedly their Welcome Package. There are some fun on-running offers too. Players get the chance to spin their daily Bonus Wheel, and you’ll receive free Sweeps Tokens when you purchase Gold Coins.

I’m giving Scrooge Casino a respectable 4.5 out of 5 star rating in this category.

Welcome Offer

There’s no promo code required to claim your Scrooge Casino welcome bonus, which is worth 2 million Gold Coins and 250 free Sweeps Tokens just for signing up. I received all the coins the moment I created a new account, and I was able to use them to start playing games immediately.

Even though you can buy extra coins if you want, there is no reason to spend any cash if you’re playing slots & table games for fun at Scrooge Casino.

However, if you do decide to top up your supply of Gold Coins, the welcome bonus package extends to your first purchase. You can get a special discounted rate of $9.99 for 1.5 million GC and get 2,500 ST absolutely free

Scrooge Casino Bonus Code

There is no Scrooge bonus code required to trigger your bonus. Everyone gets the same welcome package by default, and you’ll notice GC and ST appear in your balance automatically after your account is set up.

Daily Login Bonus

Once you’ve completed Scrooge Casino’s KYC process, you can spin their bonus wheel once per day for a chance to win random rewards. You’ll always walk away winning something.

I’m a big fan of this promo, which is a fun twist on the more common daily login bonus that sweeps sites often offer. The fact that you’re always guaranteed to get some combination of GC and ST is great, and the random element adds a little extra spice.

Refer a Friend

Everyone who signs up to Scrooge Casino receives a unique affiliate link. If you get any of your friends to sign up via your link, you are both in line to receive some free Sweeps Tokens, provided they purchase some Gold Coins. The referral program is pretty new at Scrooge, and the number of ST you both receive can vary depending on when your friend completes the process.

Social Media Giveaways

Like many social casinos, Scrooge Casino is very active on social media and uses its platforms to host giveaways and advertise its latest offers. For this reason, it’s always worth following them on the likes of Facebook and Twitter.

To get involved with a giveaway, you might have to simply like a post or post a screenshot showing yourself playing a specific game to earn your share of some free ST.

Scrooge Casino Games

Scrooge Casino relies primarily on their excellent slots collection to keep players entertained, but they’ve also got a decent selection of table games, unlike some competitors like Luckyland Slots. I had a blast playing here, which is why I’m giving their game collection a 4-star rating. The lack of live dealer tables is where Scrooge loses some points.

Slot Games

Scrooge Casino has teamed up with KA Gaming, BGaming, Relax Gaming, and Slotmill to host 100+ classic slots alongside eight progressive jackpot slots. They’re always adding more reels to their collection, so be sure to check back frequently under their “New Releases” tab for the latest additions. This is all important in my book: I prefer social casinos that keep refreshing their library of games, and I appreciate the variety of multiple different software providers.

Some of their most popular games include Animal Land, Golden Scrolls, Plunderland, and Cash Defense. As I played slots, I enjoyed the crisp graphics and realistic sound effects that really immersed me in the experience. My favorite slots at Scrooge are Payday Express and Persia Bonanza.

You can play all the slots with either GC or ST, but you only have the chance to redeem cash prizes when you win ST.

All their slot games looked great on both desktop and mobile, but I do wish they would add some more in-depth search filters. As of right now, you can use the search bar in the middle of your screen to look for specific titles or filter by new slots. They also have a category for fish games.

Table Games

As a rule of thumb, sweepstakes casinos aren’t necessarily known for hosting loads of classic table games. Scrooge Casino is turning that narrative on its head with a solid selection of video poker, blackjack, baccarat, roulette, keno, and other specialties. Here’s what I found:

  • Blackjack

  • Poker (Texas Hold’em)

  • Robo Wild Sevens

  • Lucky Video Poker: Double Up

  • Aces & Eights

  • Bonus Poker

  • 3D American Roulette

  • Baccarat

  • European Roulette

As you can see, Scrooge Casino really comes through for fans of classic casino games. I had loads of fun with their classic Blackjack game, and I was similarly impressed by their in-house Baccarat table.

Video poker players have the most variety available to them. It’s relatively rare for a social casino to include one video poker game, but Scrooge goes the extra mile with five options. My favorite game is Aces & Eights, but Bonus Poker and Lucky Video Poker: Double Up are fun too.

Needless to say, Scrooge is an excellent option for table game lovers. Should you ever need a change of pace from the classics, they’ve got some more really unique options too.

First up, Scrooge is home to a number of exciting “Casuals Games” like Plinko & Super Keno. Sports fans can check out Penalty Kick, Slap It, or Blastman.

Finally, they host a number of futuristic “crash-style” games like Space XY, Red Baron, Heads & Tails XY, Limbo XY, and Minesweeper XY. Unlike traditional casino games, these Scrooge specialties have different rules where the jackpot payout grows the longer you stay in the game.

It’s a very fun alternative to the more traditional games on offer, and it really helps Scrooge stand out from its competitors. The likes of Chumba Casino or Wow Vegas certainly don’t have any crash titles, and they’re really worth checking out.

Live Dealer Games

Scrooge doesn’t host any live dealer games as of right now, but that could change down the line. Live dealer games still aren’t commonplace at social casinos, although the likes of High 5 Casino does offer them. This is an area for potential improvement for Scrooge.

Scrooge Payments

You don’t have to spend any money before you play casino games with Scrooge, with either GC or ST. Because you’re not placing bets with real money, Scrooge is legal in locations where real money gambling would otherwise be illegal.

However, you do have the option to purchase additional Gold Coins if you want to increase your supply. In fact, this is the main way that Scrooge makes money from its player pool.

Below, I’ve listed the payment methods available:

Scrooge Payment Details
Payment methodsCredit Card, Debit Card, Scrooge, BNB, USDC, USDT, CashApp, PayPal
Minimum purchase$5
Maximum purchase$250
Minimum prize redemption5,000 ST ($50)
Prize redemption time2-3 days on average

I wanted to see how easy it was to make a purchase, so I decided to test out the various payment methods.

After clicking on the (+) button next to my GC balance, I clicked the drop-down tab and chose Credit Card. Notably, you’re limited to four credit card purchases daily.

I was also happy to see that I could use Binance, USD Coin, USD Tether, or Scrooge’s very own cryptocurrency (Scroogecoin) to purchase GC. Nonetheless, I took advantage of the first-time discount available for new players with my bank card. I purchased 1.5 million GC and got 2,500 free ST for $9.99.

Then, I went ahead to replicate the process with Binance Coin by purchasing another $5 in GC. Connecting my crypto wallet to Scrooge was self-explanatory, and I received both purchases in mere seconds. It’s great that Scrooge accepts crypto, putting them ahead of sites like Chumba. Unfortunately, Scroogecoin payments do have a 16% processing fee.

Once I’d had my fun playing games, I tested out the process of redeeming Sweeps Tokens. 100 ST are worth $1 in prizes, and I was able to redeem my Tokens using both PayPal & CashApp. All in all, it took 3 days for the money to hit my account. You can also request a gift card, which gets sent to your email address.

Scrooge Payment Methods Comparison

Below, I’ve created a table that shows how Scrooge Casino’s available payment methods stack up against the most common deposit and payout methods offered by competing social casinos. Here, I’ve compared Scrooge to RealPrize Casino, Luckyland Slots, Fortune Coins & Stake.us.

WSN Scrooge Customer Support

Having access to high-quality support can make or break your online casino experience, and Scrooge is excellent in this regard. By scrolling down to the bottom of my screen, I was able to locate their contact email ([email protected]), Facebook, and Twitter accounts. There’s also a live chat button, which is ideal.

It’s nice to see that Scrooge offers both social media and email-based support. I wanted to see how long it would take their team to reply on both fronts, so I sent an email and left a message on Facebook. I was impressed with the scope and detail of their team’s replies.

They replied to my Facebook message within minutes, making this effectively another live chat support service. I noticed a return email 12 hours after sending one out. Finally, I tested the “Chat” button near the bottom-left corner of my screen. I clicked it, wrote my message, and received a reply from a real person several minutes later.

You won’t have any trouble getting in touch with somebody who can help, and everyone I spoke with appeared to be as patient and professional as they come. That’s why I’m giving Scrooge a 4.5 out of 5 star rating in this area. Really, the only thing they could afford to add is a phone hotline.

Scrooge Casino Legal States – Where is Scrooge Casino Legal?

You can use Scrooge in 46 US states, but they don’t accept players from the following locations:

  • Washington

  • Michigan

  • Montana

  • Alaska

  • Idaho

While Scrooge also accepts Canadian players, Quebec is excluded from their list of territories. If you don’t see your state listed here, it’s safe to assume that you can legally sign up with Scrooge. Scrooge offers more availability than social casinos like RealPrize, which is not supported in 12 states.

How to Sign Up With Scrooge Casino

I had no trouble signing up with Scrooge. I’ve gone through the registration process with numerous social casinos, and Scrooge is one of the easiest casinos to get started with. I’ve outlined the four steps you need to take in this simple guide.

  1. Follow our link to head to Scrooge Casino and get started.

  2. Create A New Account: Click the yellow “Play For Free Now” button on Scrooge Casino’s homepage.

  1. Enter Personal Details: Click “Register” at the top-right corner of your screen and log in with your Google, Facebook, or Twitter credentials, or type in you details manually. Then, enter your first & last name alongside any other personal details you’re asked to submit. Finally, click “Create” to create your new account.

  1. Set Spending Limits: On the next screen, set your purchasing limits and click Save Changes.

  2. Finish Your KYC: Navigate to your profile settings and click “KYC Status.” Then, click “Verify Now” to begin Scrooge Casino’s “know-your-customer” process. Upload a photo of your ID and proof of address and confirm your personal details before clicking “Save.”

There’s no need to KYC if you don’t plan on playing in sweepstakes mode, but if you do, they’ve made the process very simple. All said, beginners will have no problem signing up and playing right away.

Obtaining Coins at Scrooge

Even though you can exchange Sweeps Tokens for cash prizes and gift cards, Scrooge doesn’t actually use real money currencies for wagering. Instead, you can play all the games at Scrooge for free using Gold Coins and Sweeps Tokens.

When you’re playing games at Scrooge in GC Mode, you’re only playing for fun and you can never exchange your Gold Coins for prizes. You can keep your free supply of Gold Coins and Sweeps Tokens ticking over through the welcome bonus, daily prize wheel, social media giveaways and more.

If you want to play with a currency that can be exchanged for something tangible, you’ll have to switch the toggle from GC Mode to ST Mode. Sweeps Tokens are simply a currency that can be used to enter sweepstakes contests for real prizes. This model means that Scrooge Casino can operate even in states where real money gambling isn’t permitted. You can redeem your winning ST for prizes at a rate of 100 ST to $1.

While you can never simply buy Sweeps Tokens, you can purchase Gold Coins. When you do, you often receive some free Sweeps Tokens a bonus.

You can buy Gold Coins for as little as $5, which will get you 500,000 GC on top of 500 free ST. At the other end of this spectrum, players can purchase 25 million GC and get 25,000 free ST for $250.

How to Redeem Prizes at Scrooge Casino

I found it very simple to redeem prizes at Scrooge Casino, and the entire process can be done through CashApp or PayPal. However, you’ll need to complete their KYC process before you’re eligible to exchange Sweeps Tokens for prizes.
The minimum amount you can redeem is $50, and the maximum is limited to $5,000.

It’s also worth noting that you’ll need to play through your Sweeps Tokens at least once before you exchange them for cash or a gift card. This applies to any free ST you receive from a purchase bonus, claim via social media giveaway, or receive in a daily bonus. In other words, your ST comes with a 1x playthrough.

In order to redeem prizes at Scrooge, click the menu icon at the top-right corner of your screen and then click “Redemption Center.” If you haven’t already done so, take a moment to complete their KYC process. You’ll need to upload a picture of your ID, a selfie of you holding your ID, and proof of address (such as a utility bill). Finally, confirm your personal details and click on “Save.”

There’s no option to receive a bank transfer at Scrooge Casino, but you’re able to connect your PayPal and/or CashApp account in order to withdraw funds. This entire process might sound a tad daunting, but you’ll only have to verify your personal information with Scrooge Casino once.

100 ST is equivalent to $1 in real money value, which means you’ll have to redeem 5,000 ST ($50) at a minimum. During my tests, my prize redemptions hit my PayPal or CashApp account within 2 days.

If you’re receiving a virtual gift card, it’ll be sent to whichever email address you signed up with.

What’s the Difference Between Scrooge and a Real Money Casino?

Scrooge Casino is what’s known as a social or sweepstakes casino. Social casinos don’t use real money for wagering purposes. Instead, all the casino-style games can be played for free, using virtual currencies. This allows sites like Scrooge, Chumba, RealPrize, and other casinos to operate in locations where real money gambling isn’t otherwise permitted.

Although you can’t play the games with real money, or make deposits or withdrawals like at real money casinos, social casinos like Scrooge do allow its users to redeem real cash prizes when they play in sweepstakes mode. At Scrooge, this is when you use Sweeps Tokens, often called Sweeps Coins at other social casinos.

Playing at social sites like Scrooge is an excellent option if you are located in a state that doesn’t allow real money gambling.

How We Rate Sweepstakes Casinos

Before we endorse any social casino, we spend hours doing hands-on research. Everything that makes it into our reviews is based on first-hand experience with the site, rather than simply repeating the information that is already out there.

Our team of experts are required to spend at least two hours covering the following five key areas before they begin to write a review:

  1. User Experience: The most important starting point of any social casino is their user interface, and we rate sweepstakes casinos based on how beginner-friendly and fun to use they are. We also pay attention to graphics, available search filters, and whether or not a particular casino has a downloadable mobile app.

  2. Game Collection: We look for casinos that have a wide range of classic slots, progressive jackpot slots, table games, and specialty games. We take the time to test out a wide variety of games, to make sure the software works well on both desktop and mobile. We love unique touches and games you won’t find at other social casinos, too.

  3. Bonuses & Promotions: We personally opt-into all the promotions on offer, from the welcome bonus for new members to the daily login bonuses for regular players. We want to see bonuses that genuinely add value to the gaming experience. We also make sure to go in-depth on any tricky terms and conditions our readers need to know about.

  4. Purchase and Redemption: We systematically test out every single payment method on offer, for both purchases and prize redemptions. This can take days or even weeks, but we want to follow the process from start to finish to determine how it feels from a regular user’s point of view.

  5. Customer Support: We test out every support method on offer, from live chat to email support. If there is a phone line available, we call it. We like to get in touch with agents that are friendly and helpful, who solve our problems right away. We also check out the FAQ or help section, to see what kind of general information is available.

Why You Should Trust Us

Here at WSN.com, we’ve reviewed hundreds of casinos, sportsbooks and social casinos over the past 19 years. Since 2005, we’ve been featured on ESPN, Reuters, CBS News, Forbes, Entrepreneur and the LA Times.

Our expert analysts boast more than two decades of combined experience in the world of online gaming, and it’s all based on hands-on experience. We’re all genuine fans of both sports and casino gaming, and we’re doing this because it’s our passion, not just a job.

For every site we cover, we make it a point to highlight both what’s good and what can be improved, and explain our experiences clearly, in plain language, so that our readers understand what they are getting into.

Finally, WSN only endorses legal real and regulated money casinos, sweepstakes casinos, and sportsbooks.

Scrooge Casino: Final Verdict

I’m happy to recommend Scrooge Casino to anyone who enjoys immersive slots and classic table games. Their diverse collection is a joy, especially since so many social casinos pretty much exclusively focus on slots. The crash games in particular really make Scrooge stand out, and are perfect if you’re looking for something genuinely different in the world of social casinos.

I love that you get both GC and ST as soon as you sign up, and the daily prize wheel is a really fun variation on the classic daily login bonuses. And don’t forget to check their Facebook page to find the latest promos & giveaways. I never found myself running low on GC because of their bonuses.

Mobile gaming is one area that I think Scrooge could look to improve in the future. The mobile site works pretty well when you access it using your phone, but I preferred the desktop version overall. A redesign, plus a dedicated app for both iOS and Android, could take Scrooge to the next level.

Even though Scrooge is the new kid on the block, they’ve made more progress in one year than many social casinos have made during the past five years. If you’re looking for a crypto-friendly social casino with some really unique games, Scrooge is the perfect fit.

Responsible Gameplay

Sweepstakes casino gambling is meant to be fun, and there’s no need to buy anything if you’re only looking for some entertainment. However, if you do decide to buy GC, it’s essential to do so responsibly.

Never spend more than you can afford to lose, and don’t regard the possibility of redeeming prizes as a smart way to make money. Ultimately, Scrooge Casino is a business that makes money from its users purchasing coins.

If you’d like to learn more about Scrooge Casino’s commitment to responsible gameplay, click on the “Responsible Social Gameplay” button at the bottom of your screen. There are some great tools that can help you manage your time and money on the site. I was easily able to set my daily, weekly and monthly GC purchase limits.

If you find yourself playing or spending too much, you can ask Scrooge to temporarily or permanently restrict your account. There is also great support available from sites like the National Council on Problem Gambling and  Gamblers Anonymous.
