Tend to walk around with a pocket of loose change? Royal Canadian Mint’s hefty new coin will have you rethinking the size of your pockets.

Royal Canadian Mint’s Hefty New Coin Will Have You Rethinking the Size of Your Pockets

The Royal Canadian Mint has unveiled its latest magnificent creation: the Big Silver Maple Leaf. This colossal coin is a testament to the enduring popularity of the Canadian maple leaf bullion coin.

With a face value of $1,000 and a weight of 10 kg, this coin is certainly not designed for everyday use. In fact, it weighs almost as much as three Canadian infants at birth (10.08 kg).

The Big Silver Maple Leaf is crafted from 99.99% pure silver and features intricate designs on both sides. The reverse showcases a detailed maple leaf by artist Walter Ott, while the obverse bears the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III by Canadian artist Steven Rosati.

According to the Mint, this coin is the world's highest denomination 10-kilogram silver bullion coin, with a face value of $1,000. It is also the largest 99.99% pure silver maple leaf coin in the world, measuring 230 millimeters in diameter.

Only 299 of these coins have been minted, making them a highly collectible item. However, this rarity comes at a premium price: each coin can be purchased for an astonishing $24,999.95.

If the hefty price tag is a deterrent, the Mint offers a six-month payment plan for $4,166.66 per month. Once payment is complete, the order will be shipped.

The Big Silver Maple Leaf is available for purchase on the Mint's website. However, it is not expected to ship until November 12.

The coin is housed in a removable tray within a wooden cabinet-style case. Inside the box is a drawer that contains a hardcover book detailing the story of the silver maple leaf.

To ensure pristine handling of this precious coin, a pair of cotton gloves is also included. After all, extra care is always warranted when dealing with a coin that retails for $24,999.95.

While the coin's size and value may render it impractical for daily use, it undoubtedly serves as an impressive collector's piece and a striking tribute to Canadian craftsmanship.
