Rohit Sharma's rotten luck with the toss continues as he tied Brian Lara's unwanted record on Sunday, March 9

Mar 09, 2025 at 04:44 pm

New Zealand won the toss in the Champions Trophy 2025 final and they decided to bat first as Rohit loss out on the coin flip for the 12th consecutive time in ODIs

Rohit Sharma's rotten luck with the toss continues as he tied Brian Lara's unwanted record on Sunday, March 9

output: Kane Williamson won the toss and elected to bat in the Champions Trophy final on Sunday, March 9 at the Harare Sports Club in Harare.

This will be the 12th straight time that Rohit Sharma's side will bat second in an ODI. India's last win in a coin flip came against the same opponent in the ODI World Cup 2025 semi-final at the Wankhede stadium.

"We've been here enough, batted first and bowled first, don't really mind batting second. It hasn't changed much, we've chased and won as well. It does give you a lot of time and confidence to take the toss away from the game. At the end of the day, what matters is how well you want to play. That's what we've spoken about in the dressing room, not to worry about the toss and to just play well, that's what we've done and we have to do today as well," said Rohit.

The New Zealand team news is that Matt Henry misses out.

India went unchanged.

"They've played some good cricket and they're a very experienced side as well. It's going to be a good game of cricket and we're looking forward to it. We've had some good performances in the tournament so far and we'll be looking to continue that momentum tomorrow in the final. We're capable of playing better than what we've shown so far and I think we can still improve in all three facets of the game."

This was the 15th toss that Rohit had lost in all formats combined.

New Zealand have made one change to their lineup as Matt Henry misses out, while India went unchanged.

India vs New Zealand: Playing XI

New Zealand: Will Young, Rachin Ravindra, Kane Williamson, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham(w), Glenn Phillips, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner(c), Kyle Jamieson, William ORourke, Nathan Smith

India: Rohit Sharma(c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, KL Rahul(w), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakaravarthy
