Rohit Sharma's losing streak at the toss continues as he calls it wrong in Champions Trophy semi-final

India captain Rohit Sharma was looking helpless, but he masked his emotions with a wry smile and a friendly banter with head coach Gautam Gambhir after the rub of green did not go his way at the toss

Rohit Sharma's losing streak at the toss continues as he calls it wrong in Champions Trophy semi-final

India captain Rohit Sharma's struggles at the toss continued as he lost his 11th successive in one-day international cricket.

Steve Smith called it right after Rohit gave the coin a spin at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, March 04, and it turned out to be heads.

As Australia opted to bat on a sluggish Dubai pitch, it extended India's losing streak in the toss to 14, a run that began when the two teams met in the ODI World Cup final in Ahmedabad on November 19.

Brian Lara holds the record for the most successive losses at toss in one-day internationals - 12, a streak that ran from October 1998 to March 1999. Peter Borren of teh Netherlands also lost 11 successive tosses in ODIs and Rohit has emulated that feat.

Australia sealed an early advantage, opting to bat on a pitch that is expected to get slower and slower.

Captain Rohit Sharma played down the advantage of the toss, saying the 2013 champions were prepared for both consequences.

"I was prepared to do both. When you're in two minds, it's better to lose the toss. We've played three games here and each time it had something different in it. You can't really say this is how the pitch is going to play. The pitch keeps changing its nature. At the end of the day, you have to play good cricket and that's what we are focused on. We've played good cricket in all three games and that's what we'll look to do now," Rohit said.

However, fans on social media had fun, flaunting their creativity as Rohit lost the toss once again.

Meanwhile, Australia also went in with a spin-heavy line-up, adding Tanveer Sangha and Cooper Connolly to partner Adam Zampa. The world champions had as many as seven spin-bowling options, including part-timers Travis Head, Glenn Maxwell and Marnus Labuschagne.

India also retained their four-man spin attack as Varun Chakravarthy kept his place in the side after his sensational five-wicket haul against New Zealand on Sunday.
