India captain Rohit Sharma lost the toss to New Zealand captain Kane Williamson in the Champions Trophy final at Dubai on Friday. It was the fifth successive time when the toss didn't favor India as their toss losing-spree continued.
After Rohit lost the toss, the social media started reacting to Rohit's unwanted record. The Twitter users shared hilarious memes on Rohit's poor luck at the coin toss.
People used to troll Virat Kohli in a very nasty way and call him unlucky (Panoti ) just for losing the toss & now Rohit Sharma has lost 15 consecutive tosses but no one is saying a word. Unreal hypocrisy.
Captain Rohit Sharma reaction after loss another toss. #INDvsNZ Rohit be like : "ab me kya Karu isme"
People are making fun of Rohit but the fact is that the probability of losing 15 tosses in a row is 0.0000305 or 0.00305%
Even the chances of finding a highly talented Icelandic cricketer are higher.
The last time India won a toss was way back in 2023 World Cup semi-final at Mumbai. Their current streak of losing tosses began in the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia.
Out of the 15 tosses, Rohit has lost 12 while KL Rahul lost the other 3 tosses when India toured South African in 2023.
After losing 11 tosses, the Men in Blue have now surpassed Netherlands’ record for most consecutive losses at the toss in ODI cricket. The Orange had lost 11 tosses back-to-back in 2009.
After the last game against Pakistan, fans and experts had shared their reactions on Rohit losing the toss again.
The Kiwis won the toss and opted to bat first. They made one change in their Playing XI as they brought in leg-spinner Nathan Smith for left-arm seamer Matt Henry, who injured his shoulder in the last match.
"We are changing the leg-spinner for the leg-spinner. It is a part of the plan we had going into the game. We want to try and get a part-time leg-spinner in the side but it has been difficult so far," Kane Williamson said at the toss.
"We have enjoyed our time here in the UAE. We came here to play good cricket and try to win the Champions Trophy," he added.
On the other hand, India went unchanged in the game which means that they are continuing with four spinners.
"We are going with the same team. We have enjoyed playing here in the UAE. It is a great atmosphere for cricket here," Rohit said.
"We are playing well and we are looking forward to the final," he added.
India qualified for the final by winning all their games in the tournament so far. On the other hand, New Zealand have won three and lost one game so far. Their only defeat came against India in the last group stage match of the tournament.
India are the favorites but New Zealand have an excellent record in the ICC tournaments which makes them a dangerous opposition for any team. It is expected to be a close contest with both teams having the required skills.
