Rohit Sharma Is Close to Breaking a Record Nobody Would Want - Consecutively Losing the Most Number of Tosses

Indian men’s cricket team captain Rohit Sharma is closely to breaking a record nobody would want - consecutively losing the most number of tosses. He got closer to breaking the record after losing the toss against Australia at the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy 2025.

Sharma tossed the coin at the Dubai International Stadium today and Indian team had to bowl first as Australian skipper Steve Smith made the right call of heads.

Sharma has reportedly lost 11 tosses in a row in One Day Internationals (ODI), trailing former West Indies cricketer Brian Lara who lost 12 consecutive times.

With today’s loss, Sharma has now tied Peter Borren of the Netherlands. Besides, it was India’s 14th consecutive loss at an ODI game. The team last won a toss in the semi-finals of the 2023 World Cup against New Zealand.

While speaking about having to bowl first, Sharma had said, “I was prepared to do both. When you’re in two minds, it’s better to lose the toss. We’ve played three games here and each time it had something different in it.”

“You can’t really say this is how the pitch is going to play. The pitch keeps changing its nature. At the end of the day, you have to play good cricket and that’s what we are focused on. We’ve played good cricket in all three games and that’s what we’ll look to do now,” he added.

India’s bad luck in winning a toss has triggered hilarious memes online, as many pointed out how the coin never favours Sharma. Check out the memes below.
