Rishabh Pant Forgets to Call Toss, Forces Retake in Never-Seen IPL Moment Ahead of LSG vs RR Match
Apr 19, 2025 at 10:11 pm
In a moment that left players, commentators, and fans in splits, Lucknow Super Giants skipper Rishabh Pant created a rare and hilarious scene during the toss
Lucknow Super Giants skipper Rishabh Pant had players, commentators and fans in splits as he forgot to call the toss and it had to be flipped again in a never-seen moment in IPL history.
The scene unfolded during Match 36 of IPL 2025 on Saturday at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur as Pant's LSG clashed with Rajasthan Royals.
As stand-in RR captain Riyan Parag flipped the coin for the toss, Pant appeared completely caught up in the moment and forgot to make a call. The coin landed, and everyone turned toward Pant, only to realise he had not said "Heads" or "Tails."

Pant was quick to admit it, even telling Parag with a chuckle that he didn't make the call. The duo shared a light-hearted exchange on the field, and commentator Simon Doull had to step in, requesting Parag to toss the coin again.
The toss was retaken, and this time, Pant called "Tails" - and won it. Without any hesitation, the LSG captain opted to bat first.
"We're going to bat first, wicket is looking dry so we want to take advantage. No dew so why not bat first. General thought process was to take the positives," Pant said during the toss.
"We are lacking in small areas, want to improve on those and take the game forward. Was good to get back into form and contribute. I was not worried about it, knew it was round the corner. But it takes time and I got time in the last game. Prince comes in for Akash Deep."
Recently, Pant has been performing exceptionally well with the bat. In the previous match against Delhi Capitals, he achieved a magnificent score of 108 not out.

Meanwhile, RR encountered a setback as their regular captain, Sanju Samson, sustained an injury in the last game and was ruled out of the match. In Samson's absence, Parag was entrusted with the leadership responsibilities. The Royals also made one change as they handed a debut to 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who replaced Samson in the top order.
"We were looking to bowl actually, it is a little bit warm. They'll be better in the last time. They pulled out Samson and they are playing a young lad, Vaibhav Suryavanshi. It's been kinda tricky. We've been doing small bits right but we haven't been able to put a collective performance together, we've been having honest chats as a team. We love playing here, we know the conditions well, hope we can put that to good use," said Parag.
The teams:
Lucknow Super Giants: Kyle Mayers, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant (c, wk), Harishankar Rana, Marcus Stoinis, Ayush Badoni, Prince Ben đem, Ravindra Jadeja, Akash Deep, Mohsin Khan and Yudhvir Charak.

The pitch at Jaipur featured square boundaries of 67 and 63 meters and a straight boundary of 73 meters. Pitch number 5 was in use with a steady breeze across the ground. The surface offered good bounce and carry, particularly benefitting pacers early on, though it was expected to dry out under the afternoon sun and assist spinners later. According to Shane Watson and Simon Katich, 185 is the par score at the venue
