Ripple (XRP) President Monica Long: RLUSD Stablecoin Rollout to Major Exchanges Coming 'Imminently', Spot ETFs Targeting US in 2025
Jan 09, 2025 at 11:33 am
RLUSD currently runs on the XRP Ledger (XRPL) and Ethereum and is a relatively small (and new, having launched only weeks ago) stablecoin with a market cap of around US$53 million (AU$85.3 million) and a 24-hour volume of U$138.9 million (AU$223.5 million).
Ripple’s stablecoin, RLUSD, is set to hit major crypto exchanges "imminently," according to Ripple President Monica Long.
Currently, the stablecoin, which Long also refers to as the "Ripple Dollar," only trades on a limited number of exchanges, including Bitstamp, Bitso, Moonpay, Independent Reserve and Bullish.
In an interview with Bloomberg Crypto, Long stated that Ripple is working on expanding RLUSD's presence on more platforms but declined to provide a specific timeline for the rollout.
RLUSD, which runs on both the XRP Ledger (XRPL) and Ethereum, is a relatively small and new stablecoin, having launched only a few weeks ago. It has a market capitalization of around $53 million and a 24-hour trading volume of $138.9 million, according to CoinGecko.
Long expressed optimism about the adoption of RLUSD and stablecoins in general, which she expects to accelerate as the broader crypto market grows.
She also highlighted a strong "growth trajectory" for Ripple's payment solutions, stating that the company doubled its payments business in 2024.
Regarding the potential for an exchange-traded fund (ETF) linked to XRP, Long said it's likely to come "very soon," along with other altcoin ETFs in the United States.
She anticipates that changes in the White House administration will help speed up the approval of several spot altcoin and XRP ETF applications that have been filed in the U.S.
Bloomberg Intelligence analyst Athanasios Psarofagis also commented on the matter, saying that crypto ETFs are "hot" right now and that "issuers love to apply when the theme is hot."
Several altcoin ETFs are awaiting approval, covering assets like Solana, HBAR, Litecoin and XRP.
Bitcoin ETFs have seen significant success, with the U.S. ETFs alone accumulating 5.44% of the total Bitcoin supply in just one year of trading, despite some recent mixed results.
