Ravens-Bills Is the Marquee Matchup of the Divisional Round

Jan 19, 2025 at 09:46 pm

Many say the divisional round is the best weekend of football all year. Last week's mostly uncompetitive games and the intriguing matchups in the final eight would suggest there's truth to that sentiment.

Ravens-Bills Is the Marquee Matchup of the Divisional Round

The AFC divisional round is headlined by a clash between the Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills, two of the league's top offenses.

The Bills opened as 1-point favorites but are now underdogs at home, with the spread moving to Ravens -1. Still, the moneyline has the Bills at -105, indicating this game is very close to a coin flip.

These two offenses are very similar, with both relying on an effective running game that heavily involves their quarterbacks. This opens up the passing attack, and while neither team has true pass-catching superstars, the Ravens have a clear edge at running back with Derrick Henry.

However, the Ravens give up the second-most passing yards per game, which could be a problem against Josh Allen. On the other hand, the Bills don't have a traditional rushing attack, so Baltimore's ability to clog up the line of scrimmage may not be as effective.

Defensively, the Bills are more balanced and should be better suited to slow down Lamar Jackson than the Ravens against Allen.

In their Week 4 meeting, the Ravens destroyed the Bills 35-10 at home. Henry ran for 199 yards and three touchdowns, while Allen completed just 16 passes for 180 yards.

But home-field advantage is crucial in this game. The Bills were one of two teams to go undefeated at home during the regular season (along with Kansas City), and the Buffalo crowd will make Jackson's day difficult.

We're splitting hairs between two Super Bowl contenders but ultimately siding with the home team.

Pick: Bills +1
