A rare Queen Elizabeth II 50p coin is being sold by a Blackburn seller for just under £500.

The HM Queen Jubilee 70th ER 2022 coin is listed on eBay for £499 and is described as being in "mint condition."

A total of 1.3 million copies of the coin were made available through a "limited release" at UK post offices on February 7, 2022, to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Coin experts at Change Checker have also named the Battle of Hastings 50p and the Snowman 50p as being two of the rarest coins, with a mintage of 600,000 each.

Post Office chief executive Nick Read said at the time of the coin's release: "We are thrilled to be part of the celebrations for Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee year and that our 11,500 Post Offices across the whole of the United Kingdom will exclusively start the circulation of this special 50p coin.

"Postmasters are at the heart of their local communities and have been throughout our 360-year history. I have no doubt that this will be a real honour and privilege for postmasters and their teams."

Postmaster Umesh Sanghani also added: "We have had many customers coming into our Post Office to check that we are going to get the special 50p coin.

"They don’t want to miss out on this souvenir. I am a Royalist. It is amazing that the Queen has reached her 70th anniversary. I am really looking forward to the celebrations this year."
