Three rare pennies that could be worth a fortune - including one worth £1m

Owning a coin collection can be a lucrative hobby, with some selling for more than their face value.

TikTok users are being urged to check their collection of rare coins after one coin was revealed to be worth a staggering £1million.

Coin enthusiasts were left stunned after the video, shared by user @CoinCollectingWizard, who has 212,000 followers, highlighted three special penny coins to watch out for.

The clip begins with the TikTok user explaining how 240,000 coins were made in 1950.

He said: "If you had £1,000 in 1950 you could have bought all the 1950 pennies ever made.

"After the war there was a great shortage of small change."

He then went on to explain how to identify the coins and what they could be worth today.

The TikTok user added: "So if you find a 1950 UK pre-decimal penny today you're looking at between £30-£70, depending on its condition."

He then moved onto the 1918 KN penny, stating its value "depends on the condition".

He continued: "A good grade 1918 KN penny can be over £30, but if it's in extra fine condition, you could be looking at over £600."

However, there's an even more valuable coin out there.

Discussing the 1954 penny, the TikTok user revealed: "This is one of Britain's most famous coin rarities.

"Many other coins are of equal or greater rarity, but for some reason, the 1954 penny has become the best known of these rarities.

"If for some crazy reason you ended up with a 1954 penny though even if only one is known to exist, then you really could be a millionaire."

The video has been viewed more than 1,000 times and garnered dozens of comments from viewers.

One person exclaimed: "I have lots of these," while another chimed in: "Oh my I have loads of these."

Others queried how they could cash in their coins for a windfall.
