The Royal Mint released a 50p coin to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the UK Pride movement back in summer 2022. It was designed by east London artist and activist Dominique Holmes and marked the first time the UK’s LGBTQ+ community had been recognised on an official coin.
The design included the historic Pride progression flag and was inscribed with Pride in London’s values of protest, visibility, unity, and equality in rainbows.
The 50p coins were available to buy over the summer (in 2022) in a range of metals but did not enter general circulation.
Now nearly three years on, these rare 50p Pride coins are selling online for more than 60x their worth.
