A very special 20p coin from 2008 is causing quite the stir online – for all the right reasons.

Over on TikTok, user @CoinCollectingWizard recently discussed the piece which doesn't feature a date on it, making it "extremely sought-after".

The user, who boasts a hefty following of 189,000 fans, revealed how to look out for the coin.

In the clip, he starts by counting his stash and asking how much he has.

Then he revealed the bombshell, using a female voiceover, who said: "This 20p is known as the undated 20p, considered by many as the 'holy grail' of change.

"The undated 20p is undoubtedly at the top of most serious collectors list. In 2008, an unknown number 20p coins were released into circulation, without a date on either the obverse or the reverse."

He revealed the Royal Mint confirmed this was the first time such an error had occurred in over 300 years.

The fact it entered circulation without a date makes it "extremely sought-after" by collectors.

The TikTok viewer added: "Royal Mint also confirmed while the exact quantities are unknown, there is no more than 250,000 of these undated coins which entered circulation.

"One of the most important things to check when you think you have something rare is the eBay sold prices, as this gives you a good reference on what the coin is worth. As we see on average, this undated 20p is selling for around £50."

Since the clip was shared, it garnered hundreds of likes and several comments.

One user commented: "My mum found one of those between the sofa cushions."

Another chimed in: "Got just the one in my collection."
