Rare coins: The error coins you need to look out for in your pocket - they could be worth hundreds

Some rare coins have been hitting the headlines recently, after a 50p detail had coin collectors rushing to check their pockets.

Now, it's not just the 50p coins causing a stir online.

According to TikTok user @CoinCollectingWizard, there's a number of coins you need to keep an eye on in your pocket.

One of the designs recently sold for £205 on eBay, while another is believed to be worth a staggering £750.

Speaking with his 210,500 followers, the user asked: "Have you ever found a coin that just doesn't look right? It could be an error!"

He then went onto detail two specific coins, starting with the error £1.

"This error £1 coin has had the design for the new £1 struck on an old £1 coin base," he revealed.

"The error is believed to have happened when the familiar round £1 was replaced with the new 12-sided coin in 2017. One recently sold on eBay for £205 in 2018."

Meanwhile a bronze 20p coin also kicked up a fuss online after experts claimed it sold for nearly £800 recently.

"One mistake collectors want to get their hands on is this normally silver 20p coin in bronze," the user continued.

"This happened after being struck onto the metal normally struck for a 1p coin that had slipped into the wrong batch.

"This error has been confirmed by the Royal Mint as an extremely sought-after minting error.

"These are super rare and are not specific to any year. We've had a look online to see how much these error coins sell for but it doesn't look like there are any currently available on sale.

"But experts have previously valued these coins at £750 each."
