Long queues continue to form at South Goa District Hospital, citizens urge govt to expedite promised improvements
Oct 01, 2024 at 04:05 am
MARGAO: On Monday, long queues formed for patient registration at South Goa District Hospital, prompting citizens to urge the government for immediate action.
The South Goa District Hospital in Margao witnessed long queues for patient registration on Monday, compelling citizens to demand urgent government action.
Several patients and their relatives expressed dismay over the delays and overcrowding at the hospital, highlighting the need for improved systems.
Recently, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane visited the hospital and assured that steps would be taken to upgrade the facility, including infrastructure improvements. However, the current situation continues to pose challenges for many seeking care at the hospital.
Citizens have now urged the government to expedite these changes to alleviate the ongoing struggles at the facility.
In response to the ongoing issues, citizens have urged Health Minister Vishwajit Rane to show compassion for patients, ranging from infants to senior citizens, and provide relief from their suffering.
They suggested implementing an online registration system that would enable patients to receive a token with a designated consultation time, which could help reduce overcrowding at the hospital.
Prabhav Naik, a citizen of Margao, expressed his concern upon witnessing senior citizens and parents with infants waiting in long queues, highlighting the lack of any organized system. He described the scene as being like a bus stand, emphasizing the discomfort and frustration of those in line.
“This is definitely not the way to treat patients and their relatives. Government needs to be sensitive towards people who are in pain due to various types of ailments. Government’s responsibility is to give them comforts,” Naik stated. He expressed hope that the Health Minister will take proactive steps to alleviate the suffering of people.
"We have already submitted a memorandum to the Health Minister on August 27 and are thankful to him for visiting South Goa District Hospital. We hope the hospital will soon be made functional as a tertiary hospital,” Naik added.
Laurel Abranches stated that there is a need for a proper system. “There is a need for a token system. Proper barricades are needed for an hour over here. Entry and exit doors should be made for easy flow of the patients and their relatives,” he demanded. He said that there should also be separate counters for separate OPDs, as the present system is a total mess.
