Polkadot Allocates $14.4M to Boost DeFi with Hydration

Gibraltar, Gibraltar, June 10th, 2024, Chainwire

Announcing an exciting development from the world of Polkadot! Hydration, a leading DeFi project in the Polkadot ecosystem, has been allocated 2 million DOT (around $14.4 million) from the Polkadot treasury. This allocation will be utilized to bolster the liquidity and trading efficiency of Hydration's single-sided liquidity provisioning platform, known as Omnipool.

Out of the allocated DOT tokens, one million will be gradually disbursed over a one-year period to attract fresh liquidity into the Polkadot ecosystem. During the initial phase, Liquidity Providers (LPs) will be rewarded at rates exceeding 200% APY. Thanks to the single-sided LP design of Hydration's Omnipool, users can begin earning rewards by providing a single asset and joining an incentives farm. Various assets will be incentivized, including native stablecoins, DOT, BTC, and several ecosystem coins.

The remaining one million DOT will be directly injected into the Hydration Omnipool to support the creation of a robust and accessible layer of native liquidity that will benefit the broader Polkadot 2.0 ecosystem over time (Treasury Proposal #730). This capital will complement the existing 690k+ DOT (and 560k+ vDOT) already LP'd into the Hydration Omnipool.

Hydration co-founder Jakub Gregus shared his thoughts on this development, saying, “This generous allocation from the Polkadot treasury marks a pivotal moment for Hydration. With this welcome injection of liquidity, we are able to significantly deepen our liquidity, which is vital not just for our growth but also for the continued health of the entire Polkadot ecosystem.”

He further added, “The Hydration Omnipool is designed to provide unparalleled efficiency and accessibility in trading crypto-assets, and this support from the Polkadot treasury is a testament to the potential impact of our forward-looking approach.”

It's important to note that the funding provided for the Hydration Omnipool will remain under the control of the Polkadot Protocol and OpenGov, and is being provided in a decentralized and non-custodial manner. This strategic initiative is set to drive substantial advancements in how liquidity is provided and managed within the Polkadot ecosystem, ultimately paving the way for a new standard in liquidity solutions across the shared blockchain network.

About Hydration

Hydration is the main liquidity protocol on Polkadot. Its mission is to make DeFi efficient, simple, and unstoppable. To achieve this, Hydration unites swaps, lending and a stablecoin currency under the roof of a single, scalable appchain. Offering single-sided LPing, automated trades (DCA) and limit orders, Hydration provides the most efficient liquidity venue on Polkadot.
