Pi Network has finally pulled the trigger on its mainnet launch, which means that the moment has arrived for the fabled "Pi Coin" to go from an app-based fantasy to a legitimate, tradable cryptocurrency. The hype has been unreal, especially with reports that the coin's price on major exchanges could be anything from $0.737 to $1.97. To put that in perspective, it’s said to have bounced back 80% from a low of $0.412. But what started as a rumor has now been confirmed by Huobi Global.

However, even with the mainnet launch and some trading activity, there's still a lot of confusion about Pi Coin's status and where to buy it. Despite the buzz and the millions of users, Pi Network is still largely operating within its own closed ecosystem.

Those who have been following Pi Network's journey closely know that it has been a long and winding road. Back in 2019, when the project first launched, it set out to revolutionize the cryptocurrency industry with its unique approach to mining and community involvement.

Firstly, a lot of those high numbers were just 'ball-park' figures that people were throwing around based on community hype and maybe some early comparisons to Bitcoin's journey. But ultimately, they weren't based on anything particularly sound.

Secondly, in the real world, the trading price of a coin is going to be dictated by the levels of buy-side and sell-side demand and liquidity, which is affected by how many users have access to their full coins.
