If you have any loose change in your pocket, you may want to check it now. That's because you may have a rare coin lurking among the old silvers and coppers.

There are 20p coins that could be worth £50 lurking in Brits' change - but do you have one?

TikToker @coincollectingwizard shared that there's a "famous coin error" in the UK. So what should you be looking for regarding the iconic silver piece? It's the 2008 20p 'mule error' you should watch out for.

The coin error occurs when the "wrong coin dies are used to strike a coin". When striking a coin, coin dies are used, which are pieces of metal, typically steel, shaped like a cone or cylinder, used to stamp images onto blank metal discs (planchets).

But "in 2008, the Royal Mint made a big mistake" when they "released a batch of 20p coins with no date on either side".

These error coins have sold for £50 online, and "even more in the past depending on the condition," which is a "massive return on just 20p".

The money guru did point out that there are "fake ones out there," however, so you should "always get your coin authenticated before selling".

The normal 20p piece should have a date on the reverse of the shield, or on the obverse for older designs - but these error coins have no date whatsoever.

It may be worth checking your jeans pockets for loose change and checking whether you have any of these super rare coins.

The video said: "So, what are you waiting for? Check your old change, coin jars, or even that random stash you have in your car. You could be sitting on a small fortune."

In the comments, someone claimed that they had "many" of the rare coins. The TikToker responded: "Nice, keep them safe. An easy £50 for one 20p coin is amazing."

Someone else penned: "I have coins like that. I'm selling them." The Coin Collecting Wizard replied: "Good luck. Try eBay should be an easy enough sell for you. Always pay attention to the details in my videos."
