Optimism and the 5 previous reward seasons: still 550 million OP available

Optimism has a broad history in the crypto airdrop sector, boasting 5 different distributions carried out from June 2022 to October 2024.

In total, up to today, the users of the Optimism community have received 250 million OP tokens, as a token of gratitude for contributing to the growth of the project.

During the 5 seasons, different categories of addresses have been awarded, with significant differences in terms of eligibility and the amount of the reward.

More specifically, we see how in airdrop 1, held in the summer of 2022, there was the largest distribution of OP, with 200.1 million tokens offered as a reward.

On this occasion, all early adopters and active users of the network were eligible, with a total of 248,699 eligible addresses.

Below are the specifications of the allocation:

In the airdrop 2 in January 2023, 307,965 addresses were rewarded that actively participated in the governance and used the OP Mainnet chain. In this second tranche, a more moderate amount of tokens was offered, equal to 11.7 million OP.

The airdrop 3 took place in September 2023 and was also dedicated to governance. 57,000 addresses claimed a total of 8 million OP.

During the airdrop 4 of January 2024, it was the turn of 23,000 addresses that came into contact with the NFTs of the Superchain ecosystem. A total of 10.3 million Op were airdropped to all those who spent gas for the NFTs of the OP Mainnet, Base, Zora, and Ethereum networks.

Finally, in the last round 5 of October 2024, Optimism rewarded everyone who interacted with at least 20 unique contracts of the Superchain, with a contract-to-transaction ratio of at least 10%. In total, 54,000 addresses received a share of the loot of 10.4 million OP.

In its tokenomics, Optimism has specified that 19% of the OP supply is allocated to the community in the form of airdrop.

Approximately 13% of the supply, or 550 million OP, still need to be unlocked and distributed in future airdrop rounds.

6th round crypto airdrop OP: what actions to take to position yourself on Optimism

Given the high number of OP tokens still available to be allocated to the Optimism community users, let's see how to try to become eligible.

Although it is not clear what the on-chain actions are that will guarantee us eligibility for the redemption of crypto rewards, we can still perform targeted operations that will significantly increase the probability of success.

First of all, the first thing to do is to purchase OP if you do not already hold it in your wallet, and delegate your voting power on the dedicated section of the project.

As we have seen in previous seasons, the constraint of governance has often been fatal in determining an allocation of airdrop. Therefore, it is preferable to delegate at least 100 OP to one of the active members of the network, or alternatively vote personally on the DAO proposals.

Another recommended action to try to catch the 6th airdrop of Optimism is to interact with the new chain recently introduced to the Superchain.
