5 Novelty Bets to Spice Up Your Super Bowl LIX Viewing Experience

Feb 03, 2025 at 11:11 pm

Super Bowl LIX is less than a week away, and football fans everywhere are gearing up for one of the biggest sporting events of the year.

5 Novelty Bets to Spice Up Your Super Bowl LIX Viewing Experience

Super Bowl LIX is just around the corner and fans everywhere are preparing for one of the biggest sporting events of the year. While everyone will be watching the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles in this highly anticipated rematch, some of us are focusing on another exciting part of the game — novelty bets.

These fun bets go far beyond the scoreline and add a little extra excitement to the day. Of course, these ones are pretty hard to nail down, even with thorough analysis, but nonetheless, they’re fun and something outside of the box.

Before you load up your bet slip, we’re breaking down 5 of the most popular and entertaining novelty bets for Super Bowl LIX.

The Coin Toss Outcome

Odds: Heads (+100) | Tails (+100)

Winning team odds: PHI Eagles (+100) | KC Chiefs (+100)

The coin toss is the ultimate kickoff for a Super Bowl bet despite it being a literal toss-up.

It’s a true 50/50 chance, making it one of the simplest bets of the game. There’s no strategy to this, but it’s an even bet in a sea of bets with fluctuating odds.

Will it land heads or tails? That’s up to fate and nothing else, really. Historically, tails have a slight edge in overall Super Bowl appearances, but that doesn’t mean much — it’s still random as each coin toss is unrelated to any previous tosses.

For those looking to up the stakes, you can also bet on which team will win the toss or even whether the team that wins the toss will go on to win the game. Historically, winning the Super Bowl coin toss hasn't really guaranteed victory in the game. In the first 58 Super Bowls, teams that won the coin toss went on to win the big game just 27 times compared to losing 31 times. More notably, there was a streak where the coin toss winner lost 8 consecutive Super Bowls, which was broken when the Kansas City Chiefs won both the toss and the game in Super Bowl LVII.

With all of that, the Kansas City Chiefs are still listed at +255 to win the toss and the game, while the Eagles are at +320.

It’s a different and fun way to tie in the pregame rituals to the final outcome, especially if you’re sitting around the TV with a bunch of friends.

The Color of the Gatorade Bath

Odds:

Purple (+175)

Orange (+250)

Yellow/Green (+250)

Red (+425)

Blue (+450)

Clear/Water (+850)

No Gatorade bath (+1500)

The Gatorade shower is an iconic Super Bowl tradition. We’ve all seen it and it’s always fun to watch.

After the final whistle — or sometimes before — the winning coach is typically doused with a cooler of the team’s go-to hydration choice, usually Gatorade. Betting on the color of the hydrating liquid has become a fan favorite across various sportsbooks.

Orange and yellow/green are popular picks, as they’ve been the winner’s choice in several recent championships. Purple leads the odds this year at +175 which tells us this must be a favorite for bettors and not necessarily the oddsmakers.

But don’t overlook red or blue, especially if you’re tying it to the team colors. A long-shot bet like water or no Gatorade bath at all could also add a little thrill for risk-takers. The last time a team didn’t drench the coach was during Super Bowl LI in 2017 when the Patriots left Belichick out of it.

Will a Flea Flicker Be Used?

Odds: Yes (+210) | No (-270)

The flea flicker is one of football’s most thrilling trick plays. But will it happen in the final game?  Super Bowl LIX offers bettors the chance to bet on whether we’ll see one during the game by either team.

This year, the Chiefs and Eagles are both fairly creative teams, with play-callers willing to throw a curveball to keep defenses guessing.

Though the odds favor "No" at -270, we are not discounting the possibility of it happening. Both teams will pull out all the stops on the biggest stage, and if the offensive coordinator thinks a flea flicker will be a game-changer, you can bet they’ll take the shot. At +210, betting "Yes" could come with a nice payout if either team decides to get fancy.
