World Network (the blockchain system extending biometric ID platform Worldcoin), is discussing with Visa

World Network, the blockchain system extending biometric ID platform Worldcoin, is discussing with Visa to connect on-chain card features to a self-custody crypto wallet
World Network, the blockchain system extending biometric ID platform Worldcoin, is in discussions with Visa to connect on-chain card features to a self-custody crypto wallet, CoinDesk reports.
This collaboration, reported by Ian Allison and edited by Nikhilesh De and Sheldon Reback on March 24, 2025, will see the integration of Visa’s network with World Network wallets. The aim is to bring Visa card functions, including fintech and FX applications, fiat on/off-ramps, and stablecoin-based payments to numerous merchants in Visa’s network, to World Network wallets.
In addition, Tools for Humanity, co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, is issuing a request for product form to card issuers.
World Network has also been engaging with crypto card providers, like Rain, which is backed by Coinbase (NASDAQ:COIN) and Circle and supplies on-chain Visa cards for projects including Optimism and Avalanche.
“Basically to turn World Wallet into a mini bank account for anyone who wants it,” a source familiar with the plans described the strategy.
Given Sam Altman’s "huge clout in the industry" another source said "other wallet providers should be worried".
Worldcoin (now World) bets big on Orbs to fight deepfakes
World Network recently launched a World Chat application, which will allow users to send crypto-based transactions to one another within the network.
Since 2021, Worldcoin’s iris-scanning orb, which is used to collect biometric data from people to verify their identity and grant them access to the Worldcoin token, has been met with significant controversy.
Major card networks like Visa (NYSE:V) and Mastercard (NYSE:MC, Tokyo:6768) have been increasingly engaging with crypto projects and wallet firms to explore synergies between their networks and digital assets.
Tools for Humanity and Rain declined to comment, and a spokesperson for Visa did not provide a comment by the time of publication.
