Mysterious Whale Snags Millions in Solana Meme Tokens, Signaling Market Uptick

Apr 03, 2024 at 05:15 pm

A large investor has significantly increased their holdings of Solana-based memecoins, cat in a dog's world (MEW) and dogwifhat (WIF), indicating a surge of interest in these cryptocurrencies. The investor purchased 181 million MEW and 776,830 WIF within a short period, amassing a notable presence in the memecoin ecosystem on Solana. This significant accumulation has sparked speculation about the potential for these tokens to gain mainstream traction and has attracted the attention of crypto traders and analysts.

Mysterious Whale Accumulates Millions in Solana Memecoins, Signaling Market Surge

Blockchain analytics platform Lookonchain has uncovered a substantial investment strategy by an undisclosed investor who has acquired vast quantities of two meme-themed Solana-based cryptocurrencies, sparking speculation within the cryptocurrency community.

Massive MEW and WIF Buyout

Data gathered from the on-chain monitoring service reveals that this enigmatic trader has amassed a staggering 181 million cat in a dog's world (MEW) tokens following a previous acquisition of 776,830 dogwifhat (WIF) tokens less than a fortnight ago.

"A large investor has purchased MEW using a newly created wallet, spending 6,000 SOL (approximately $1.15 million) to acquire 181 million MEW tokens [on Monday]. The same investor had previously allocated 10,000 SOL ($1.91 million) towards the purchase of 776,830 WIF tokens ($3.18 million) on March 20th, currently holding an unrealized profit of $1.27 million. Additionally, this investor has generated a return of 4,893 SOL ($934,000) on SLERF tokens," Lookonchain reported.

Market Fluctuations and Memecoin Surge

At the time of writing, MEW's value had increased by over 45% within a 24-hour period, reaching $0.007718. Conversely, WIF's price had declined by nearly 7% to $3.96, while Solana-based meme token Slerf (SLERF) experienced an 11% drop to $0.47.

Growing Interest in Solana's Memecoin Ecosystem

Solana's burgeoning memecoin ecosystem has attracted significant attention within the cryptocurrency sphere, drawing the keen observation of traders and analysts alike. Pseudonymous trader The Flow Horse expressed the belief that cat in a dog's world could potentially gain widespread adoption on Coinbase, a leading US-based crypto exchange, ahead of dogwifhat, which currently holds the position of the largest memecoin on Solana.

"Based on the current trajectory, it appears that MEW could secure a listing on Coinbase before WIF. While it may seem humorous, it is crucial not to overlook projects that emerge rapidly with substantial support and an unexpectedly high market capitalization," The Flow Horse cautioned.

The news of this large-scale accumulation has sent ripples through the cryptocurrency market, hinting at a potential surge in interest in Solana-based memecoins. The identity of the investor and the motivations behind these purchases remain unknown, but the market impact of their actions is undeniable.
