MicroStrategy Buys 5,262 Bitcoins for $561M, Bringing Total Holdings to 444,262 BTC, CEO Saylor Remains Bullish on Bitcoin

Tech firm MicroStrategy has bought 5,262 more bitcoins for around $561 million, bringing its total cryptocurrency holdings to 444,262 BTC. The company paid an average of $106,662 per bitcoin, according to a Friday filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

MicroStrategy now has about 444,262 bitcoins, which it acquired for a total of $27.7 billion and an average price of $62,257 each, as of December 22, 2024.

MicroStrategy CEO Michael Saylor announced the purchase on his X account on Friday.

The company had a bitcoin yield of 47.4% for the QTD and 73.7% for the YTD, according to the filing.

On December 16, MicroStrategy announced another large bitcoin purchase, buying 15,350 bitcoins for $1.5 billion.

MicroStrategy is known for its large bitcoin holdings, which are closely watched by investors and analysts. Bitcoin is one of the most volatile currencies today, with its value increasing or decreasing very rapidly. These fluctuations have not deterred MicroStrategy, which has a large stake in bitcoin’s future growth.

In addition to its bitcoin investments, Michael Saylor, the founder of MicroStrategy, has also made bold suggestions. He has urged the U.S. government to sell its gold and buy bitcoin instead. Saylor has also suggested that the U.S. should hold 20%-25% of the total bitcoin supply, which he believes would make the U.S. dollar even stronger as the global reserve currency.

The company’s bitcoin investments are a result of MicroStrategy’s strong belief in the future of the cryptocurrency. Despite the fluctuations in bitcoin’s price, the company is aiming to hold a large amount of bitcoin. These investments will be closely monitored as the market continues to evolve, making MicroStrategy one of the largest bitcoin holders in the world.
