Michael Saylor Urges Jeff Bezos to Buy $100M Worth of Bitcoin Instead of Spending It All on a Wedding

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is reportedly planning a lavish wedding for Dec. 28 that could cost a staggering $600 million. The astronomical price tag has sparked outrage on social media, with many criticizing Bezos for spending such an exorbitant amount on a single event.

However, Bezos has denied the claims, calling the story published by the Daily Mail "completely false." Despite Bezos' denial, fellow billionaire Bill Ackman appeared to take a jab at the reported spending in a social media post.

"Unless you are buying each of your guests a house, you can’t spend this much money," Ackman wrote.

Meanwhile, MicroStrategy co-founder Michael Saylor took the opportunity to suggest that Bezos should consider buying $100 million worth of Bitcoin instead.

"Jeff Bezos is getting married on Dec. 28. Daily Mail says it will cost $600 million. Maybe he should buy $100 million of Bitcoin instead," Saylor wrote on Twitter.

The suggestion comes amid a broader push by some investors to get Amazon to add Bitcoin to its portfolio. Earlier this year, a proposal was filed by Amazon shareholders urging the company to diversify its portfolio by investing at least 5% of its assets in Bitcoin.

The proposal, which was submitted to the Securities and Exchange Commission, argues that adding Bitcoin to Amazon's portfolio would "preserve and enhance long-term value for the benefit of Amazon and its shareholders."

"Bitcoin is a scarce, digital, and global store of value that has appreciated significantly over the last several years and is expected to continue appreciating in the future," the proposal states.

"By including Bitcoin in its treasury reserve allocation strategy, Amazon would be able to participate in the upside potential of Bitcoin while mitigating the downside risk through diversification."

Amazon shareholders will vote on the proposal at the company's next annual meeting.
