President Marcos Jr. commended the Army's 6th Infantry Division (6th ID) for its successful anti-terrorism operations and efforts in bringing former enemies of the state back into society. During his visit to Camp Siongco, he acknowledged the division's collaboration with local communities in promoting peace and supporting the Mindanao peace process.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. visited Camp Siongco in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte on Monday, April 24th, to express his gratitude for the efforts of the Army's 6th Infantry Division (6th ID) in combating terrorism and facilitating the reintegration of former enemies of the state into society.
The President lauded the division's relentless anti-terror campaign and its role in securing the return of former rebels to mainstream society. He acknowledged the division's domestic peacebuilding efforts and its collaboration with local communities in support of the Mindanao peace process.
During his visit, Major Gen. Alex Rillera, commander of the 6th ID, presented the President with an array of firearms surrendered by residents of provinces under the division's jurisdiction, including those recovered from members of the Dawlah Islamiya and the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters.
The weapons cache presented to Marcos included firearms seized from 12 BIFF terrorists killed by soldiers in an encounter in Barangay Kitango, Datu Saudi Ampatuan, the previous week. Notably, one of the slain terrorists was Kagui Karialan (real name Mohiden Alimodin Animbang), the BIFF's top leader, who was wanted in 47 high-profile criminal cases in various courts in Central Mindanao.
Marcos expressed his appreciation for the division's efforts, stating, "As your president, I join the country in giving you a proud salute." He commended the officers and personnel for their dedication to maintaining peace and security in the region.
The President's visit underscores the government's commitment to combating terrorism and fostering reconciliation in Mindanao, a region that has experienced decades of conflict. The 6th ID's efforts to secure the surrender of former rebels and facilitate their reintegration into society are crucial for achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.
