Lotte's Caliverse Metaverse Platform to Integrate Arbitrum's Layer-2 Blockchain Solutions

Mar 27, 2025 at 10:09 am

The focus is on Caliverse, Lotte's AI-driven metaverse platform, which will incorporate Arbitrum's Layer-2 blockchain solutions. This integration promises smoother crypto payments and enhanced virtual experiences.

Lotte, a leading conglomerate in South Korea, is set to integrate Arbitrum’s Layer-2 blockchain solutions into its upcoming AI-driven metaverse platform, Caliverse.

This collaboration, announced at CES 2025 in Las Vegas, will introduce smoother cryptocurrency payment processing and enriched virtual experiences within Caliverse.

The integration comes in the form of a grant awarded by Arbitrum Foundation to Lotte. While the financial value of the grant is not disclosed, it is granted in Arbitrum’s native token, ARB. This strategy aims to foster the growth of Arbitrum’s ecosystem.

Confirming Lotte as the largest recipient of such grants, John Park, Head of Korea at Arbitrum Foundation, highlighted the significance of this partnership.

“We are delighted to be collaborating with Lotte, one of Korea's most iconic conglomerates, on their journey into Web3. This partnership signifies a pivotal moment in expanding the boundaries of technology and innovation. As Lotte ventures into the metaverse with Caliverse, and Arbitrum provides seamless Layer-2 solutions, we are laying the foundation for an exceptional Web3 experience.”

This collaboration builds on Lotte's previous initiatives in the metaverse sector, which commenced in 2022 with the aim of creating new revenue streams and expanding its customer base.

Steven Goldfeder, CEO at Offchain Labs, added that Arbitrum will be the Layer-2 engine powering Caliverse, ensuring that all the interesting in-game actions people take will be directly linked on-chain.

This setup will not only improve the reliability of the experience but also render it more valuable and enjoyable for users in the long term.

Lotte's partnership with Arbitrum showcases the burgeoning interest in the metaverse sector. After a period of setbacks in 2022, the industry is witnessing a strong rebound.

Earlier this year, Arbitrum provided support to AOFverse, another platform that is developing engaging experiences in the on-chain realm.

Furthermore, Arbitrum has been making strides in expanding its presence in the gaming industry. In 2024 alone, Arbitrum's activity in gaming has seen a substantial 72% increase from the previous year. Currently, Arbitrum supports a total of 119 gaming titles on its Layer-2.
