Lomond School to Accept Bitcoin Payments Starting Autumn 2025

A Scottish private school will begin accepting Bitcoin tuition payments.

Helensburgh’s co-educational boarding institution, Lomond School, is set to start accepting the apex cryptocurrency for tuition fees from Autumn 2025.

The school, which teaches students from age three to 18, will partner with two FCA-approved Bitcoin service providers to process the transactions. Initially, all Bitcoin payments will be converted into British pounds. However, the administration has hinted at plans to eventually establish a digital asset reserve.

Principal Claire Chisholm is expected to officially announce the development at Cheatcode, the UK’s national Bitcoin conference.

"For generations, this school has been nurturing inquirers, thinkers, communicators, and open-minded risk-takers," Chisholm said.

"It’s really no surprise then that the inventor of the television, John Logie Baird, is a former pupil. We were the first boarding school in Scotland to house boys and girls together and recently adopted the International Baccalaureate curriculum, aligning ourselves with globally recognized education standards."

At least one U.S. university is already accepting Bitcoin donations. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) began accepting the apex cryptocurrency and ether (ETH) in December 2023.

The university had launched a cryptocurrency initiative in 2022 to create a framework for accepting and managing digital asset donations.

The move by Lomond School signals a broader shift in the UK as institutions are exploring digital asset integration in response to the burgeoning global crypto landscape.
