Lake District: Beatrix Potter's farm opens up to public
Oct 25, 2024 at 02:00 pm
The item is being sold on eBay for 20,000 times its original face value and is located in Doncaster. The coin features Mr Jeremy Fisher, whose starring book was released back in July 1906 as a love letter from Potter to the Lake District.
A Beatrix Potter 50p coin is being sold on eBay for 20,000 times its original face value.
The coin, which features Mr Jeremy Fisher, is located in Doncaster and is part of the Decimal Coinage category.
It was originally minted in 2017 and also has the expected depiction of HRH Queen Elizabeth II on the back.
The item belongs to the British Coins and UK Coins collection.
Despite the fact that the item has a much more recent history than the amphibious character it celebrates, the coin has become a well sought after collectable.
Just this week, a similar coin fetched a price of £7,999 after being sold from Abingdon and others in the past have brought profits of nearly £50,000.
At the time of writing, the current listing is asking for £10,000 or the best offer, with one having already being sold previously by the owner.
Buying the item would come with a £8.35 postage, though there is also the option to pick it up in person from its present home in Doncaster.
You can view the full listing here and find out more information about submitting an offer.
Multiple people on the online marketplace are looking to take advantage of the popularity of the coin.
In Ilford, two of the items are being sold, priced at £6,999 individually or £6,649 each if bought as a pair.
