Key Dogecoin Developer Warns Community about Fraudulent Tokens Exploiting Dogecoin Branding
Apr 15, 2025 at 07:15 pm
A key Dogecoin developer identified as “inevitable360” gave a strong alert to the Dogecoin community about fraudulent tokens that falsely represent Dogecoin relationships.
A key Dogecoin developer, identified as “inevitable360,” has issued a strong alert to the Dogecoin community about fraudulent tokens that falsely represent relationships with Dogecoin. This warning comes during active promotions of dubious initiatives like “Dogevan,” which exploit Dogecoin branding to entice novice investors. The developer highlights that such misleading tokens indicate both deceptive practices and safety threats to the Dogecoin community.
The developer, known for contributions to the Dogecoin network, took to social media platforms to notify followers that fake projects have no ties to him or the Dogecoin development team. Highlighting Dogevan as an example, the developer explained how the project leveraged Dogecoin’s standing to engage the fan base, despite lacking support from its creators.
“They made a token and used the community to try to hype it up. They used Elon’s interview with Chamath to try to scam people into thinking there was some partnership with Dogecoins. Please do not fall for these types of tokens as they are not created or supported by Dogecoin developers,” the developer said.
Following his post, members of the Dogecoin community began discussing how to better teach new investors and prevent future scams.
Developer Mishaboar, recognized in Dogecoin circles, previously warned about the same type of fraudulent project. Mishaboar promotes the practice of strategic investment as he recognizes the risks of crypto markets full of fabricated information spread by deceitful actors. The developer urges newcomers to conduct thorough research before investing as Dogecoin and other memes can become targets for dishonest actors.
“There are no ‘Doge tokens’ being made by the devs, and if you see any 'Elon’s new project' or anything similar, it’s a scam. We’re not making any other tokens, and we’re not planning to make any more tokens other than $dogecoin. If you see any different tokens being made with Dogecoin’s name and likeness, it’s a scam. Please be aware,” Mishaboar said.
Scam tokens have existed in the cryptocurrency world for some time, although their capability to deceive users with fake legitimate projects has advanced dramatically. Scammers use false celebrity endorsements, fabricated whitepapers, and deceptive promotional techniques to trick investors into trusting them. Scammers often target Dogecoin because of its cultural prominence, including celebrity backing, particularly from Elon Musk, which gives these schemes greater chances of success.
Dogevan joins other fraudulent projects that steal the Dogecoin brand because of its market recognition by creating copycat branding schemes. Such scam methods work to make investors believe they are purchasing legitimate Dogecoin partner assets or extensions. Rug pulls occur when token prices rapidly increase and decrease as developers backing these useless schemes vanish afterward to collect the money that entered their pockets.
Dogecoin users are now intensively focused on becoming more safety-conscious because of prevalent security threats against the network. Reddit users along with X (formerly Twitter) members share educational content which teaches users how to recognize scams by showing them ways to authenticate contracts and verify developers as well as identifying indicators of fraudulent tokenomic systems.
The developers have specified that authentic updates concerning Dogecoin should be distributed through the Dogecoin GitHub and Reddit community alongside developer social media accounts. New projects that do not receive announcements within official channels should be treated with suspicion.
This expanding number of scam alerts highlights the broader challenges within the cryptocurrency industry. A lack of sufficient regulatory oversight in various jurisdictions allows crypto to function as an optimal environment for fraudulent opportunists. Lack of experience and the attraction of supposedly large earnings turn new investors into the prime target for fraudulent activity.
