Julian Assange Freed, This Altcoin Price Skyrockets!

Jun 26, 2024 at 12:35 am

As you have been following on Kriptokoin.com, the market has recovered a bit today after yesterday’s sharp sell-off.

Julian Assange Freed, This Altcoin Price Skyrockets!

After spending 1,901 days in the UK’s high-security Belmarsh prison, Julian Assange was released on Monday. Following this development, the token of the altcoin project AssangeDAO saw an increase of over 80 percent.

Assange is preparing to plead guilty to a single charge in a deal that could lead to his release.

The market has recovered a bit today after yesterday’s sharp sell-off. In this process, some tokens saw strong increases accompanied by critical developments.

One of them is AssangeDAO (JUSTICE), an altcoin dedicated to Wikileaks founder Julian Assange.

AssangeDAO member: $37 million spent to rescue Assange!

AssangeDAO member Silke Noa said that an estimated 11,000 Ether worth $37 million from 16,593 ETH was spent by AssangeDAO’s The Clock on legal defense and campaigning.

She explained that the allocation of 16,593 Ethereum (ETH) to free Assange was managed by the Wau Holland Foundation from their “Safe.global multisig wallet address”.

In this context, Noa shared the following:

Probably, in the past, there were security reasons that prevented full transparency on the allocation of funds to avoid prejudicing Julian’s case. But now it is time for the Wau Holland Foundation to provide a detailed accounting of how the funds were allocated, as I have called for many times before.

Julian Assange to appear in court this week

The surge in the altcoin price followed Assange’s flight on Monday to the remote Pacific island of Saipan, the capital of the Northern Mariana Islands (NMI), a US commonwealth in the western Pacific.

The Wikileaks founder made his way to a courtroom on the island. There he is expected to plead guilty to a single charge on Wednesday in a plea deal that could secure his release and return to Australia, potentially bringing an end to his five-year legal battle.

Accorddingly, Wikileaks shared the following statement:

Julian Assange’s flight VJ199 landed in Bangkok a few hours ago: he will soon enter US airspace, where he will appear before a US judge.

Assange accused of violating the US Espionage Act

Assange’s case involves espionage charges against the US government after he published on WikiLeaks a large cache of documents detailing alleged war crimes committed by US armed forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The documents provided to WikiLeaks came through Chelsea Manning, a whistleblower who was serving as a US Army intelligence analyst in Iraq at the time.

In 2019, the US Department of Justice filed multiple charges against the WikiLeaks founder under the US Espionage Act. If convicted of these charges, the total maximum sentence he could theoretically receive exceeds 170 years in prison.

However, according to WikiLeaks, Assange only pleaded guilty to one of the 18 charges in a plea agreement with the US Department of Justice.

If convicted of this single charge on Wednesday, he could face 62 months in prison. However, he will have already served time in a UK prison while awaiting sentencing.
