New York Mets outfielder Juan Soto recently gifted his teammate, Brett Baty, a brand-new Chevy Tahoe in appreciation for Baty giving up his No. 22 jersey to Soto when he joined the Mets.
A video shared by the Mets on Thursday, Feb. 20, showed Baty being surprised with the new ride, which had "Thanks For #22" written on the back of the vehicle. Baty was visibly excited and could be heard saying, "This is crazy. This is crazy!"
Soto joined the Mets in December after a record-breaking 15-year, $765,000,000 deal in free agency, following his departure from the New York Yankees.
According to some fans, the gift highlights the significant wage gap between Soto, who earns around $51 million per year, and Baty, a 25-year-old third baseman who is set to make about $800,000 this season.
"After using some basic math, if this car cost $100,000 then Juan Soto spent 0.013% of his $765 million contract," wrote one user on X. "Better 'slow' down on that spending.... Awesome for Brett Baty!"
Another joked, "Baty gonna be driving that for uber out on the city after this season! Lol."
The Mets will begin their season against the Houston Astros in Houston on Thursday, March 27.
