India captain Rohit Sharma has opted to bat first against Afghanistan in their Super Eight match in the Twenty20 World Cup in Barbados on Thursday.
Sharma called correctly at the coin toss and chose to bat against Afghanistan, who are making their debut in the Super Eight stage of the tournament.
India made one change to their team after beating the United States in their opening match, bringing in left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav and leaving out pacer Mohammed Siraj.
Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan said he would have also opted to bat first if he had won the toss.
"We are used to chasing but we have a good batting lineup and we can put up a good total," Khan said.
India are the defending champions in the Twenty20 World Cup, having won the title in 2023. Afghanistan are ranked ninth in the world in Twenty20 Internationals, while India are ranked second.
The match is being played at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.
